So last nite Cotton was on the bottom of his house his back to me.  He is usually out playing at that time.  I coaxed him out of his cage. Well I opened the top and convinced him to come out.

He was breathing fast and his eyes were big.  Even in his house. Deciding to hold him to calm him down he didn’t struggle a bit.  Then he saw his chance and took off behind some pillows on the couch.   Eyes big breathing hard.

Thinking maybe the sleeves on my  shirt were bothering him cause the sleeves are big I changed my shirt.  Then gathered him up in my arms with no struggle at all.   I cooed to him and petted him.  I was so worried what scared him so.  Did I drop my one of my meds and he ate it.  Noooo he was in his house. Finally he took a big breath and exhaled like whew it’s over.

I was so worried I was about to cry.      Only 4  things I could think up were the big sleeves on my shirt scared him?  My shirt being black scared him? The slippers I put on top his hay container scared him?   The smell of hubby frying a cow tongue in vinegar? Once I thought of it I I opened the door to let the smell out.  Could it have been the smell?

I mean he was so scared he wasn’t struggling or anything.  Talk about releived when he inhaled and exhaled like that. Phew.

Then everything was back to normal with his bunny self.

There was a good chance it was the smell! Vinegar can be a little strong and bunnies are often opposed to strong smells in small spaces. I know others whose bunnies will stomp and be stubborn when they’re frying up something pungent.

Could have been the cooking smells and he was already cowering in his house before you brought him out. There has been previous discussions about cooking smells terrifying some bunnies.

I agree. And I think we don’t notice the sounds we make when cooking, but that can set a bunny off too. I have a fan with two settings over my stove, and even the low one sends the bunny running for cover. We like the sizzle – they don’t. Glad you were able to comfort him.

Hmm hubby has cooked like that b4 with vinegar.   Perhaps the windows were open though.   The smell was very very strong.  That was probably it then.

Had me scared. He was all stiff too.  Probably about to pass out from the fumes  Poor bun bun.

He has been his normal self since then.  His Majesty Cotton.  playing I am King of the living room.
