First, some background information to make this make sense.  Maryann is festidious with her poop.  She will ONLY use her litter box.  I have seen her hold it in for three hours and leave a pile of greens to poop in the litter box and then hop out and begin munching again.  Amazing for a feral really.  Dono is very good with his habits too but if he’s  munching away on hay, like most buns he’ll just start pooping where he sits.

Now, I have my hay rack (a nice one that has a wire mesh top with a couple of openings in it to get at the hay through) up against the wall of the condo with the litter box lengthwise up against it.  When I put in a new hay load, the rabbits eat from the bottom half as it is in the top half corner where they pee.  Once the hay is gone from the lower half of the rack, Dono will push the litter box out of the way and begin munching on the upper area.  I completely understand this as who would want to stand in their pee while eating.  However, it means he leaves behind droppings on the floor when he does this and Maryann shows her displeasure ad his untidyness by shooting the bb’s all over the place – my signal that it is time to clean up the place.

Well here’s what scared me yesterday.  Before I left for work, I heard a weird digging noise from the condo.  I looked in as I was heading out the door and Maryann was digging the hay out of the upper area of the hay rack – the litter box still up against it.  I didn’t think much of it at the time, figured she was going for the ‘tasty bits’.  Well I got home from work last night and saw what she was up to.  Half of the hay was removed from the rack and most of it was piled up at the bottom half of the litter box – and there was Dono inside of the litter box, munching away on the hay.

Maryann moved the hay to a place where Dono could eat it and not poop outside of the litter box.

Now maybe this was just a wierd coincidence, I don’t know.  But it is just another point where I really do wonder about what is between those cute ears of Maryann.

I think the issue all started with the “Mr. Pinkerton for President” campaign. It seems that it should have been “Maryann for President” from the beginning.

I bet she could solve the world’s problems before noon.

Okay, stunned into silence. 0_o I have no comment other than….

…could you ask Maryann to help me with my taxes? Her filing skills appear to be exemplary!

She’s litter training him! And what’s more, she knows that to get a male to do what she wants, she need to lure him with food.  She knows she can’t change him but she can change the environment.   Maryann is awesome!

It’s funny. I just found out last night that Dono is a romantic. I was worried that I have not seen him groom Maryann. I mean, in the last month, I may have seen him lick her twice and I do mean TWICE. Each grooming was less than a second.

Well last night I got up to use the bathroom and peeked in on them while the lights were off,and there was Maryann, lying down with Dono giving her kisses from nose to shoulders. Guess the atmosphere must be right. I’ll try some Barry Manalow this weekend.

By the way, Markus…I’ve been meaning to ask, a few months ago we were worried about Maryann’s overall health because she had some high levels on her blood tests? How is she faring now? (Besides being clever enough to get DonoJuano not only to potty where she wants, but show her affection as well!)

I know she’s a senior bun, so I think about her often and wonder how she’s doing health wise.
Also, any word about Fitz lately?

Dono is not only a romantic but also a Gentlebun. He doesn’t kiss and tell.

                            Ditto MM, Maryanne? Fitz?

Well Maryann’s not quite a senior yet. More middle aged. She’s having her 7th birthday this September. I don’t think of them as senior until after 8. She’s doing all right although this morning she had me a little worred. She was acting ‘crazy’. I know that’s a common comment here but she would shake her head, then run over to Dono, lick his forehead and then nip his behind. I could tell from Dono’s eyes that she had been doing it for a while and her eyes were a bit ‘wild’ too. It was as if something was really bothering her but neither Dono nor I knew what it was. I picked her up and petted her for 5 minutes and she basically pooled in my hands – something she doesn’t usually do when I pet her. But she’s eating and pooping. If she’s still acting strange, I’ll take her into the vets tomorrow. Maybe she just needed some attention from her dad.

Fitz is doing terrific. He’s apparently binking like crazy now. He loves to cuddle up with my girlfriend when he wants to. He enjoys his condo I got him although he’s apparently ready for an addition since he’s chewn out the back wall on his second story. My girlfriend found some cheap, dried grapevine mini wreaths at Michaels that he apparently can’t put down. he doesn’t chew them to bits but rather loves throwing them about. He’s just about forgiven her roommate for the nail trim he received two months ago – which means it’s time for it again. Her roommate is happy to do the trimming to keep my girlfriend the ‘good guy’ in the relationship with the bun.

Oh, and she absolutely adored the poem I did on Georgie. She says she cried for an hour after reading it and still tears up whenever she looks at it in her bedroom.

You know, refering to the lavish affection that Dono showered upon Maryann, I think he was THANKING her for showing him the error of his ways!! I mean, where would he be without her?

Quick Recap – Girlfriend had a bun named Georgie who passed away after she was altered.  Although not the main cause, her diet of chips and pizza was probably a factor in it She got Fitzgerald afterwards and is taking much better care of him.  He stayed with me for a month while the girlfriend moved back east for her Doctorate and I ‘whipped’ him into shape.  Maryann wasn’t happy about him being there and if you look closely at the first picture, you can see a mall, black dot on his left (our right) lip just next to the split.  That is where Maryann bit him through the cage bars.  She only let go after Fitz backed up twice, hitting Maryann’s head into the bars both times rather hard.  She’s a feisty one.

Oh okay, for some reason I got it into my head that Maryann was 9 years old. My bad. And my apologies to Her Worship. *bows*

Oh dear, I can just picture her hanging on to Fitz’s lip and getting smacked by the cage bars…holy cow. >.< I guess she made her point though. :-/

Hmmm….’worries me when Maryann is ‘quirky’. But since we’ve got a whole volcano blowing up here in the South Central area, I would guess it’s triggering all sorts of seismic activity and perhaps you folks are in for a few more earthquakes.

And come to think of it…maybe that’s the real reason why Mimzy is throwing his litter box precisely at 8 AM each day. I never thought of that. (Redoubt seems to be most active in the early morning or late evening hours.)

Almost sounds like she’s engaging in play Maryann style. Or seeking attention from one of you. Just some thoughts – you know her best!!

Oh, as an FYI, Fitz found a way to get back at her. He’d do his best to be seen by Dono and just flop over or lie as close as he could get to the condo (I had a couple of fences seperating them). When he just sat there, it drove Dono crazy to the point that he had to mount Maryann to show Fitz that she was his girl. The ONLY times I had seen Dono mount Maryann was in Fitz’s presence.  And, needless to say, it totally freaked her out.

And people say cats are the evil, conniving species.
