I can’t give details on which shelter bun this is-because in Canada if details about an animal cruelty case are public before charges are pressed you can’t go to court. It is that serious and I will post on how the bunny is doing and give more once we press charges.

Needless to say there is a little bunny recooping at my house. bunny was starved. Those of you who know the body condition scale for horses-bunny’d be 1 or 2. We just got back from the vet-and she’s going to write a letter for our case.

I will keep you posted on how bunny does. So far bunny is perked up from sub-q fluids and attacking food. Vibes needed please!!

          Sending super-healing vibes your way!

Animals can surprise us and survive an incredible number of things if they have the will to. We had a cat that was caught in a house fire, we thought we’d lost her but we found her in a basement pantry something like 7-10 days after the fire. She was skin and bones and barely moving. Vet came out to look at her, gave her some sub-q (lots of it) and we watched her carefully for the next few days and amazingly she recovered and was better than ever.
Hopefully the same happens with your little bun
          – Annette

OMG, poor little guy. I hope he pulls through. They didn’t think my little Toby would make it when they rescued him, but once they had him where he could eat he picked up weight fast and there was no damage to his internal organs.

I wish the same for your little angel.

                ((bunny hugs))

                    Thank you all!

Bunny is doing good from what I can tell-eating a LOT. I guess I’m more upset then I thought, just spilled water and burst into tears…over spilled water bunny meant a lot to me when bun came to the shelter, so this is just really upsetting. I hope to go figure out charges tomorrow.

I guess I should clarify, often when an animal is surrendered, even if from a bad situation you don’t do legal things because you don’t want to discourage others from surrendering in the future. I didn’t specify-this was a foster home that did this.

That’s just unbelievable that a foster home would neglect a rabbit that way. I mean, no one forced them to be foster parents and they could clearly just give bunny back – it wasn’t even “theirs.” So that’s just completely unacceptable! That just makes me so mad – I can’t even imagine how you must feel having to deal with this first hand. Were you just checking in on the foster home or how did you find bun was in such poor condition? Let us know how the charges go. Hugs to you and bun, I hope the eating and recovery continues.

To boot…bunny is putirid smelling-was clearly kept in a very dirty cage. My last visit to trim nails- bunny was fine. I don’t know what happened with this foster home, but I’m going after them with all I have

Oh! I didn’t realise before. I thought you had a new intake in this condition – but this is one of the actual shelter bunnies…I’m so sorry! Sending Hugs.

That is so heartbreaking! I hope those people who did this to him feel a HUGE amount of shame and guilt and I also hope they get charged with animal cruelty.

You’ve had a lot of stress lately – both good and bad – and a few tears are to be expected.

If there’s a legal way to keep these people from every setting up as fosters and owning animals again, then the legal proceedings will be worth it.

sounds like the little bunny will pull through eating like he won’t see food again poor thing.  I wish we could punish people the same way that they harmed another being.   Starve them.

Gosh if it is too much just turn the bun in people   STUPID   Sick people..   I hope the charges stick and they get it good.

I mean if you can’t care for it do the right thing for the animal. DUH   Makes you not trust people who adopt or foster buns.

Seeing all the bad ugly out there makes you think there is no good people out there and bun will not be taken care of as well as you can.  Please dont’ let this taint your view of people.  There are good people out there.  Unfortunately we have bad ones and this person it caught up to them.

Maybe the judge will say put this person in jail and not feed them. Let them see how it feels.   Though of course it doesn’t happen that way.

AFter getting rear ended twice I sold my horse cause I could no longer care for him properly. It hurts but gosh put the animals needs first.

I will do without for my buns. In fact I do.  In March I am going to treat myself I have enuf stuff for the buns to splurge on myself  hehee after 2 years of having them. lol.  My friends who had the rex bunny at least they asked for help and said they didn’t have the  $ to get it some pellets so I brought some for it.  They are having a very hard time financially and the rex bunny went to a good home.

We could go no about people msitreating innocent beings I know. I will stop here.

Take care K&K  it gets better.  You are very upset about this situation I know.  I am thankful to you that this little bunny is in good hands now.

Many healing and calming vibes for both you and bunny, K&K. I am so sorry to hear this has occurred in a place that was supposed to be safe.

I think people are just losing it. The world seems to just turn evil in the most unexpected places these days. It’s no excuse, I just think there’s a cloud of it out there and the world needs more people like you, Lesley, to be there when the bottom falls out.

God bless you. Please take care and I also hope these people get what they deserve for such cruelty!

Makes is so much more heartbreaking knowing it’s one of the ones we “know” Can’t imagine how it is for you! Can I ask…..was the carer there when you removed “Bunny” or were you allowed access via someone else?  Just wondered if they were there whether some questions could be answered or not.  Or this has happened via someone the carer trusted.  Just seems such strange behaviour.  Do these people seek out animals to abuse in such a two faced manner?  I can’t understand !

I know, you cannot discuss it. I guess I’m just trying to reason things.    Feel free to vent though – details aside!

I’ll be able to give more details once the charges are pressed, I’m hoping to do so today.

Jers-the person caring for ‘bunny’ was a minor so the parents were technically in charge (and signed the foster agreement). The whole family was home when I picked ‘bunny’ up and seemed to think nothing was wrong?!?!?

‘Bunny’ is doing wonderfully, and I think so long as the flora is alive (vet said the cecum had cecals in it, and was functioning-and ‘bunny’ is pooping) ‘bunny’ will recover.

It’s heartbreaking how thin the bunny is, but bunny is very happy, binkying and eating a lot. Bunny is even eating critical care off a plate! No syringe feeding. (just figured may as well give that too-as many healthy non sugary calories as I can get into bunny)-bunny is getting alfalfa pellets, timothy and alfalfa hay and a couple of baby carrots a day.

Bunny is till doing good, not at my house now since I have to go out of town but one of our volunteers is nursing bunny back to health. Bunny is eating critical care as if its’ a treat and eating anything in sight. Doing wonderful and so perky. I think bunny will make it and I think we have a damning case agains the people who did this.

It’s so f***ed up that the family would take him in as a foster and just neglect him! Did anything seem different with the family when you picked him up? Financial troubles or anything? It just seems so wrong that they would neglect a bunny that they were just fostering! Grr. Just return him to the danged shelter if you can’t care for him! [rant rant rant]

To be honest I think the parents had no idea and no interest in bunny, and the 17 year old was doing the care. Financial troubles do not factor in as A) we have no recession hitting where I live, and B) we pay for everything, and deliver it (we=me!) so there’s no excuse whatsoever besides plain old got bored of bunny syndrome-no mental illness, nothing financial URRGGG

I’m in Phoenix right now but am still leading this and am not going to back down. Can’t wait to be able to let you guys know more details and see pictures etc. Thanks for all the support.

OK-basically the way it looks is we can file with the police but given that no animal is in danger anymore nothing is going to happen. My dad is back on the 17th of April -and he knows his stuff although an engineer he worked with legal stuff for years and said he’d come with me to the police station (They turned me away saying they couldn’t do anything which makes lesley angry!!!) soooo…..we will do what we can but likely nothing will happen…of course…it’s only an animal that suffered right? Ok venting not opening up debate or anything.

Update-I’ll just give details it was Moose *cries* my love.
He’s WELL now. He’s staying with a good friend of mine and long term horse volunteer. He’s been enjoying alfalfa hay and pellets, plus gobbling up critical care from a plate!! (No syringe feeding at all!)

He’s gained noticable weight and my firend is gping to keep him for a while longer as he’s growing on her. I have three homes interested in adopting him right now (had to put off, saying he was ill but recovering as I didn’t want to get into details)…

He’s fine now, and likely nothing legal will happen but I will try my best. If anyone is interested in the before (with us) after (foster home disaster) and then after after (Fat and happy again) pictures just email me lesleyc @ radrabbits.com and I’ll send them on. But out of respect for any of us who are sensitve I won’t post them here

Here, were have the RSPCA that goes in to investigate animal abuse claims. Well it’s early days so all is not lost yet. If anything, definately take it up with that family. Maybe they’ll think twice next time. (((Moose)))

Not that I think the States is super awesome in this arena, it is unfortunately a little better than it is up there.

He did and does-It was hard to take pictures of him to show the weight loss because the bugger was streaking around my apartment non-stop When I picked him up I bawled all the way to the vet, while he sat in my lap and tried to help me shift gears and drive LOL He’s just a super super rabbit. He’s doing very well with my good friend -eating ‘like a kid in a candystore’ as we’re saying about him.

I’m just astounded they didn’t think anything was wrong. If all is lost criminally, I may go through the civil route. It will do nothing but waste my time, buuuut I’m hoping it will make it real for them. The only thing I could sue for would be damages-so his vet bill, maybe pain and suffering? It will likely just cost money but if that’s my only route -I think I may do that. Revenge for my Moosey

I’m not sure if this is something you are able to do, or if the even rescues keep track of this type of thing unless it’s thru them directly. I’m just saying… it would be interesting if she went to adopt a dog or cat (or a RABBIT!) in ten years and got denied.
