I currently use carefresh, but I was thinking about trying some other types of litter. Feline pine, and aspen bedding are 100% safe for rabbits, right? And petco sells this paper based bedding that has baking soda in it. Is that safe? (I can’t see why it wouldn’t be, but I just wanted to make sure)

What type of litter do you use, and what are the pros and cons?

I’m not sure what that paper bedding is with the baking soda in it-do you know what it’s called?

Feline pine is safe-but try wood stove pellets if you can-they are the same thing and waaaaayyy cheaper!!

I agree to try Woodstove pellets or horse stall bedding first. Very cheap, very absorbent, great on odor control.

We’ve had so many discussion on these litters, you should just be able to search the first couple pages of this forum and find more info about it.

I was told to NEVER use wood stove pellets, some may contain toxic additives? Has anyone else been told this, I’m really curious now? I have used many litters and I like Woody Pet, thats the brand name and really works well for me Everyone is different and has different needs, but I am really wary of those wood stove pellets.

Who told you not to use them? In my experience, when someone recommends strongly against something, more often than not it’s based less on facts and more on what is beneficial to them in some way. Case in point: you can trust very little of what (most!) petstore employees say, their main goal is to sell the most expensive product they can. Litter is big business…

As I’ve heard, the only thing that can be toxic is if the pellets contain accellerant. The process removes the phenols which are what make shavings dangerous.

Woody Pet is the same thing I believe as the woodstove pellets.  Just marketed for pets.

I swear by Yesterday’s News (the unscented kind) it’s made from recyled paper and is very absorbent and never smells.  It’s also very easy to change the litter.  Here’s the site http://www.yesterdaysnews.com/

I was turned on to it by a friend who rescues rabbits.  It’s great stuff.
