Ok right now in Kaspers litter bow Im using newspaper.I have a few layers of whole pappers on the bottom with strips of torn newspaper on top.But it dosent help the smell and  i go through  so  much newspaper even thoguh he only pees in a corner of his bowx all the newspaper absorbes it. I clean his box everyday but it still gets smelly  after an hour or two.

Ive tried using Carefree and others like that which is great because i can clean out the soiled area everyday and then do a full change out once or twice a week and it really keeps the smell down..But the little bugger diggs all of it out it and throw it around his cage when i do use the carefresh.

So what should i do?? Am I doomed to newspaper or  do any of yall know about a litter that has bigger pieces  or anything?

What about Lone Star Litter? I don’t know where in Texas you are but it is available at some Tractor Supplies – I get mine at D&L Feed Store in Denton but they have other locations as well.

It’s about $6 for a 35 pound bag and it has great odor control. It is a sawdust pelleted litter.

I use wood stove pellets.  So far its been the best.  I loved carefresh but it was too expensive, when i switched over to the wood stove pellets the smell control was alot better.  I use a bit if extra hay since they are hard until they get wet.

Do you plan to get Kasper neutered? I see his birthday is approaching! So he’s almost 1yr old? Neutering can help with the smell. Pelleted wood litters are very good with odor control and cheap.

You can put down a layer of litter with carefresh, put a rack on top like a cake rack then cover with shallow layer of litter or hay. This’ll discourage digging out the litter box.

              Happy Birthday Kasper!

Yes he’ll be one on the 18th

I cant reallty get him neutered as hes my FFA Show rabbit. But after next years show he will be.

(I DONT plan to  breed him.I show for fun and for  FFA.He loves going to shows and is a happy calm bunny at them.)

And Im not a ruge fan of racks as he sleeps  and is in his box alot and Im scared of him getting sore hocks even though.

(I know i over freak out when it comes to stuff like him getting sore hocks or anything like that.)

No No, that’s a valid concern! I think that’s why people put the cushioning layer of litter or hay on top. If you prefer not the use a rack at all, go for a higher sided litter box. That may help.
