And Hammer is fine!!  Yay!! Rejoice!! Oh im so relieved.  He was sneezing and it really scared me, it may have been normal for a few sneezes but I noticed them because I was so paranoid.   But I talked to the vet about Rose and decided that we cant be certain of what sort of infection she had for sure, becuase he was not the one that examined her and she went so quickly.  So just in case (and because Im a worrier) Hammer is on an injection of penicillin, .5 cc every other day to get rid of any trace of anything Rose may have passed to him.   Hammer brought RoseBun (Rose’s old plushie) with him to the vet and clung to it.  He actually tried to hid under it lol.  Um Hammer… only your face is under the bun .  But anyways he checked out.  Then he looked at the baby, and its a girl!! Relief once again.  She is not a good patient though, she absolutlely flips out.  Toke us at least 3 times as long to do her as it did to do Hammer.  Her official name is now Lucy.  Jerseygirl (Thanks Jersey!) found out that there is a variety of Rose of Sharon called Lucy, so it goes with Rose and the flower theme.  And I liked the name in the beginning.  The pet store said Lucy was 5 months, the vet says no way.  Maybe 3 or 4 months.  I have to wait at least 6-8 weeks to get her spayed.  She is already a pain in the but with her crazy pre-spay stuff.  She was 3.5 lbs, and Hammer was 5.1 lbs.  Hammer gained a whole pound in three months, but inst over weight, guess he hit a growth spurt.  The vet checked on their diet, all good but he said they need a carrot a day.  He says they need the vitamin A from them, so anyone know a veggie with lots of vitamin A?  They will not be getting a whole carrot a day, thats just crazy.  He tracked us down after he met with us to tell us about Oxbow pellets lol.  Yes they are on Oxbow, yes Hammer is limited timothy and Lucy unlimited alfalfa.  I thought it was kind of cool that he cared enough to ask what he had forgotten earlier.  I got two more 200 count Oxbow papypa tablets there too, the old ones.  That should last till I can track down some goods ones elsewhere if they dont like the new ones.  Anyways I just had to tell you guys that Hammer is fine, exciting news!  And do you think a whole pound in 3 months is normal?  He is around 10 months old, so I didnt expect him to still be growing.

Hooray for Hammer and Lucy! I don’t know about the weight gain. As long as the vet didn’t think he was over weight, I wouldn’t worry about it. Especially since it sounds like you have a pretty good vet.

I’m glad to hear everyone is healthy and happy!

Yippee, great news for Hammer and Lucy    Too cute that he still finds comfort in Rose’s plushie.

A carrot a day- wow, that sure does sound like a lot!!

Glad you guys had a good visit to the vet…..Hammer and Lucy sittin’ in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g

That’s great news! As for your question about the weight, a bun doesn’t really grow to their full size until after a year. Did the vet say that he needed to trim down at all? He sounds very normal to me weight-wise.

Pretty sure items in bold text on BB veggie list are all high in vit A.

Yes… they can get all the vitmain A they need from the green leafy veggies and healthy pellets.  A carrot a day is nonsense.  That makes me weary of this vet.  Have you seen this guy before or was this the first visit?

Ive seen him before, same vet that knew nothing about anal glands, neutered Hammer, gave check ups before, and same practice that treated Rose. But seemed to know what he was talking about other times. He had said one time to lay off greens, but I told him that I knew which were good and bad so it was fine. He didnt say anything after that, so not sure what his take on that is. The vet was fine with his weight, didnt say anything about it at least. I guess ill just have to watch that and make sure its normal growing and not getting fat.

Glad to hear the vet visit went well. I think that is so sweet about Rose’s plush toy. I really like the name Lucy too. It’s very cute for a bun.

Have you checked with the Vancouver Rabbit Rescue & Advocacy for a more rabbit-savvy  vet?  This one sounds O.K. but not quite up-to-date with the whole house rabbit concept. I raelize there probably aren’t a whole lot of options and this could be the only one really close but it is also good to have a really good rabbit savvy one in case you really need them and you want a second opinion on something.

                            Here is their web site:

I’d ditto that, sounds like an OK vet but any vet who ‘prescribes’ a carrot a day and says to lay off the greens sounds a bit ‘old skool’ to me Are you in Vancouver?
