So, remember my Timothy? The old, old sanctuary boy we recently took in? One of his lumps started bleeding three days ago – it burst open. I called the president of the HRS and she helped us getting him to the vet (since he is a sanctuary boy). The vet Timothy went to is THE BEST here, he does laser surgeries and all that. When the vet and his staff first saw him, they recommended putting him to sleep. The president of the HRS told them his living situation now and how spoiled he is and all that. This was on Thursday. On Friday, yesterday, Timothy was supposed to go through local anasthesia to remove that one lump. As they were cutting on him, the vet decided to put him out and remove all lumps since he was doing so well. He went through surgery with flying colors, no problems at all! By Friday evening, everyone at the office was ooing and awwing over Timothy and they were all flattered how he would lick them and they were amazed at how well he did through everything.

When I first saw Timothy, I thought the most humane thing was to put him to sleep. After a day, I changed my mind. It’s amazing how much will to live Timothy has, how strong he is. He is not bothered by the fact that he cannot move around like a young bunny. He is my little trooper! He is such a bunny ambassador! He loves everyone and everything, is happy wherever he goes. Velvet and Dancer are the complete opposite. They are only happy here in their house (which Velvet has fully claimed). If people come over, that’s it, they hide, forget it. They are not social at all. Timothy is my social butterfly.

We will pick him up and bring him back home this afternoon!

Aww – what great news for Timothy! I’m glad you have an excellent vet to take him to, that can make all the difference. We can only hope that all bunnies become little social butterflies in their old age. 😉 I hope he finishes his recovery quickly!

Liza that is fabulous news! I’m so glad Timothy wasn’t put to sleep, it sounds like he’s got some time left here that he wants to spend with you.

Timothy was not doing well so I spent a lot of my time yesterday and today with him. I’m exhausted.
Timothy refused to eat two nights ago and did not do well all of today. His auntie (my new friend) stopped by and we massaged his belly, used warm water bottles and medicine to make him feel better. His stomach was enlarged, he didn’t feel good at all. My heart … it really hurt in there.
Thank goodness, today, when I got home from work, my husband had already gotten home and he greeted me at the door saying, “this rabbit really stinks today!” I was SO happy! I immediately checked on Timothy and there it was: a ton of poop!!! Diarrhea, but hey, it came out! I was so happy having to clean it all up and I was kissing him all over! Then, I washed his bottom in the kitchen sink much to the despise of my husband. Yes, unsanitary, but I don’t care. Timothy has a lot of stitches on his left side and it’s too hard for me to wash him in the bathroom. I desinfected the kitchen afterward.
Timothy is now eating pellets again and hay and his vegetables. I am DELIGHTED of course.
He is a real trooper in all this.
He is on baytril and metacam and I guess all the medication from the surgery got to his stomach.

Timothy is doing very well now that he has pooped and eaten.

Oh what a trooper that Timothy is! They sure do cause a lot of stress and worry when they refuse to eat – the little buggers! I’m glad he’s doing well again and hope the rest of his recovery is without incident. Keep us posted. 🙂
