Was able to stay home last night instead of my parent’s house, now that Mum is coming along well. Woke up after 5AM from neighbor noise, so checked on Sammy, who started to chew on her cage bars to come out. She’d tossed some litter out of the pan for the second night in a row. I figured that now that she’s better she doesn’t like any carefresh again, and will go back to just Feline Pine. Anyway, a bit of a mess, but not so bad it couldn’t wait till morning.

Sammy disagreed. I went back to bed, and to sleep, and the chewing had stopped.

I was awakened by a loud THUMP!

        In my bedroom.

It’s off limits to her when I’m up, by way of the door being closed, but yesterday she caught the door open and went in to play a bit. She knows to leave so got her out fairly soon. At night when she’s in her house I leave it open to hear her, especially after the spay last week. But I’ve not been home much too. I woke up and there was a bunny staring at me, then running and thumping under my bed. She’d broken out!!!

Naturally I got up. Cleaned the cage. Made coffee. Grumbled. She played in the livingroom, has totally ignored her clean cage and breakfast, and taken a nap in her basket hidey hole. She’s still there.

So now I need a new way to keep that cage door closed. She’s learned that forceful chewing and standing against it will eventually push it open. I have twist ties for the moment, but can someone describe the dog clips you mention and where to get them? Will they keep a cage door closed or just attach things loosely like the litter pans? The cage doors loosened with a couple of years of use by Spockie, so this was inevitable. Sigh.

OH my what a rascal.   I have seen some of the things you are talking about to hold the door shut ……..oh yeah now I remember

I saw some that keep bird cage doors locked and shut.  Those should work the pet stores have them.

I am going to have to start standing on my head  to get the blood flow going to my brain.  Oil my squeaky parts so they work better.  lol. I have been forgetting a lot lately.

I use clips like these to keep the cage shut.

              http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn

They come in different sizes so hopefully you could find some that would fit your cage – and they are sold in singles at any hardware store, so you don’t have to pay for a set or anything.  They aren’t really pretty, but they work.

Otherwise, if you could find some of those caribeener things at  a sporting goods store or something, that could work.  I’ve always wondered what those dog clip things people always talk about are, as well, so I’m not any help there.

Either of these should work.  The second ones are pretty strong.

                Rude awakening, but pretty cute!
