So I’ve been thinking of getting Lily a mate. I contacted our local rabbit rescue center earlier in the week and the original plan was to go NEXT weekend to pick out a mate for Lily. As we started corresponding about specific rabbits that were available, I just didn’t see the sense in waiting a whole nother week so……I kicked it into high gear and cleared out my office and prepared the new space for 2 separate bun habitats (until they can be together) last night! It was hard work but- it was just the motivation I needed to get it done! Now if I could just find the same type of motivation to get some other projects done around here! ha!
Lily had 4 dates today. We took her today because we figured that she would be happier picking out her own new mate. The first date was with Elwood. They were very calm with each other, he groomed her, they laid with their faces against each other. Oo la la, I think the love connection was made! Her next 3 dates didn’t go so smoothly (in fact, they ended rather quickly)! Elwood and Lily were once again put together and again, they didn’t seem to mind each other’s presence one bit. We all watched them interact for some time (though I already knew he was the one for her)!
Elwood was a stray house rabbit. They estimate that he’s about 9-10 months old. He is an English Spot mix. He was adopted out a few weeks ago and was returned (the man lost his job and was having to move in with his parents who owned a big dog). I am so pleased that we were able to introduce him to Lily, as they both have shy personalities and will be a huge comfort to one another.
Elwood doesn’t know his name is Elwood and so we plan to change his name. My husband and I have yet to find one that really fits him. I guess I will search the baby name sites to come up with a good one. Any suggestions?

I am so excited to have him!!! He’s a beautiful bun and I think he’s going to be a great companion for Lily. I will post more pics of him when he’s up and about. I am letting him relax and get used to his new pad
And yes kralspace, I think he’s very content. He’s going to feel like a celebrity with all the pictures I take of him…..hehe -
Your post made me smile! Thanks, Beka! I was kinda thinking about it but didn’t mention anything. The thinking about it went out the window as soon I was in contact with the rescue center! Then it was just a matter of when! hehe
I am surprised I could talk my hubby into it but it goes to show that he too has a soft spot for those cute little buns!
I think ‘Elwood’ (ok, still gotta find a new name) is soooooo handsome! Lily picked a good one alright!
I keep checking on him and he is still sprawled out on his bed. I have come to the conclusion that he never learned to use a litter box, but that won’t take long to correct!
I may be coming to you BB bonding experts for advice as we move along on our journey here. Yay for cute buns and great bun forums!
And yes, it’s so sad that the man had to bring him back……maybe it was destiny that he found us and his pretty Lily girl today

I am thinking that Liam may be his new name…..after today it should be decided! Lord help me when I have to name kids someday!
Thanks for the congrats, guys! He is a little skittish still, but if I am really slow with him, he lets me reach over and pet above his nose and around his eyes. I will never know what his past was but I feel so good to have rescued him. Never ever again will I buy from a pet store- where their sole purpose is to make some $$ off of the bunnies (I do love my Lily to pieces though, that is where I got her from)!
I can’t wait to put them together today to see how they act with one another- I think I should try this in the bathtub? Hubby and I will be watching closely to make sure all remains peaceful.

Yeah, Elwood *kind of* fits him but I can’t get the Blue Brothers association outta my head! So….I don’t think it’s going to be Elwood! I am one indecisive girl! Actually I’ve been cleaning house all day and haven’t put the effort into doing more name searching. He is totally relaxed and all sprawled out in his pen right now. He seems to be catching on to what the litter box is for too! yay I gave him a little bit of parsley and he devoured it! All is well here

Well, I couldn’t decide on a name so I left it up to my hubby. He came up with a really cute one! Drum roll please……………………his new name is…….Jester. His hears are huge! and reminded him of the silly hat that a court jester wears. I must say that it totally fits him. He has a really happy go lucky demeanor. Here are a few new pics of him.
