This happened once before, maybe like a month ago, where I saw this little spot of gunk (I guess kind of like sleepy dirt but not hard) in the middle of Archie’s eye.  It was kind of clear and you had to really look.  I was going to call the vet before but it was late at night and they were closed anyways so I waited to see how it was in the morning and it was gone.  No more problems.  Today I was leaving for the store and told him good bye when I saw it again.  Well first I thought it was that membrane that they have in the corner of their eye since it was right there.  He didn’t seem in pain or anything and was going to see how he was when I got home.  I got home a little bit ago and it’s still there but moved more to the bottom of his eye.  I don’t think it’s good to try to stick my finger in his eye, right….that might hurt him.  He does sometimes wink his eye a little bit like he knows there’s something in there.  Could hay or pellet dust have gotten in his eye and that’s his reaction to it?

I’m not sure what to do exactly, so maybe you guys have some insight on this.

Amelia gets these in her eye quite a lot. I use a Qtip to gently remove whatever it is from her eye. It usually takes a few tries, and be very careful not to actually push the Qtip on the eye, just glide it a bit over the gunk to get it to latch onto the Qtip. I think your bun will feel much better once you are able to get it out of his eye, Amelia always acts much more lively once I get the stuff out of her eye.

Thanks I’ll try that right now.  Oh yay I get to hold him   He hates when you pick him up….least I have a nice thick fleece sweater on so I won’t get too scratched up.  I’ll let you know if it works

It worked! I closed his door and the door to the office and he had no where to go. Wrapped him up…escaped, wrapped him up again and got the swab and got about 99% of the gunk out. There was just a little tiny bit that was really clear and I tried again but I didn’t want to poke the rest of the eye with the swab. The outside of his eyes were a little water on the edge (I’ll keep an eye on them) but he was really worked up when I picked him up. He was breathing really hard and everything, so after I was done I made him stay in the blanket with me for awhile. I think the only way for him to not freak out as much is to hold him more…no matter how hair covered I get at the end haha!
