Hey. I noticed today the Lily is loosing hair on her ears. she had some dandruff so I was lighting scratching to get it off and her fur started coming off in clumps. This is the only place she’s having this problem. She I put vitimin E on her ears or a very light lotion? I’ve never bathed her so it shouldn’t dried out from that. it’s just about from the mid-ear and up. I’m really worried about her. She has such precious little ears. I hate to see them balding. What do you guys think?

dandruff?  that may be fur or ear mites.  I would get her to a vet to get immediate treatment if that is what it is.   Fur mites seem to attack areas around eyes, ears and fur comes off in those areas and the bun scratches a lot.  They get real itchy

The vet usually gives a shot of ivermectim for that and it should clear up.

Mites are more active around nite time.  IN people anyway I am just assuming it would be that way with rabbits too.

Definitely sounds like mites, you should bring her to the vet. Rabbits don’t normally get dandruff and if the hair is now falling out, that’s not a good sign. Good luck!

First of all, thanks for getting back to me. I don’t think she has mites, though. I checked her over really good and i”m familiar with what the signs would be. Which is why I’m confused. lol. I also took the flea comb through her looked at her skin all over. I don’t see anything that looks weird other than the dandruff on the ears. However, one other thing I find strange is, She was spayed the beginning of january and she has two patches on her belly where the fur has yet to even start to grow in. The rest has fully grown back.

I’m glad you think she’s cute. Right now she doesn’t look so cute. A bald patch on her ear and she’s loosing her thick winter coat. She looks like she has feathers instead of fur. haha.

There are different types of mites- ear mites can be seen and are especially noticeable by the debris they produce.  Skin mites can not be seen my the naked eye- microscope needed.  I would recommend taking her to the vet.

In regards to her spay shave area- it took both of my females- months to grow the hair back.  Penny that was spayed in July still has some bald spots.  The incision spot seems to grow back first and then the rest later. My theory is that the body recognized the surgery incision as trauma and healed the tissue and regrew the hair- but the sterile prep area that was shaved did not have trauma and was not triggered to grow back as quickly and the body will replace the hair as it naturally would in time.  Again, just my theory from personal observations.

Yeh I think it sounds like ear mites too-I would recommend a vet trip-if it gets bad it can be painful. It’s hard to see the mites, just the flaky skin they make.
