My bunny just will not play with ANYTHING! I feel like she could be getting bored but I provide toys both inside and outside of her cage. The only thing she enjoys doing is chewing at my carpet. I have provided her MANY other things to chew but she won’t touch them. Are there bunnies that just don’t like toys or am I providing all the wrong ones? Any suggestions on things I could try….even though I feel like I’ve tried just about everything. Thanks!
What toys have you tried her so far?
Anything and everything to chew on. This hard carrot and wood pieces from the pet store. I also have a ball. I’ve used pieces of cardboard including toilet paper rolls. She has a stuffed banana thing…haha. I’ve tried a box for her to dig in. Nothing.
I’ve been in your boat too. I wish I could have all the money and time I’ve spent on buying and making toys for Felony. He LOOOOVVVEESSS his maze. Like seriously, seriously loves it. he likes to chew on it, sleep in it and run in and out of it. You could try putting together different sized boxes with some holes in them to see if she likes it.
Hmmm…lol…I know at least for my bunnies, they like carpet and carboard…have you tried anything that has a rattle to it? My bunnies have a carrot rattle thing that is like wrapped in like a twine’ish material, wood blocks, and a ball type thing. Sorry its hard to describe! lol Have you ever stuffed tp rolls with hay? Mine also really really like the willow balls, and the loofa chews.
yea i do have that exact carrot thing with a rattle! and no…she’s not a fan. i enjoy it though, haha. i’ll try the willow balls, maybe she’ll like that.
HAHA i do love that toy! Picky little girl! hehe
Whenever I buy the balls for my bunnies they are gone within minutes.
Both my boys enjoy big jingle balls that are made for cats. I got them at the dollar store. Just make sure they are big and sturdy plastic that the bunny won’t chew (some of them are pretty flimsy).
Olivia likes stacking cups made for babies. She loves for me to stack them up and she knocks them over and picks them up and throws them around.
I’ve had to be pretty creative in finding toys my rabbits actually like because most of the store bought rabbit toys don’t get a second glance from them (not to mention they tend to be pretty pricey).
Martin is picky also. He will nibble at something for a little while then be done with it.
The only thing he truely loves are the WIllow Balls. I need to order him some more. He also likes to chew on his Ton-o-fun-bun-run.
Jersey isn’t into anything I give her either. She’d rather find her own activities. If Annie (That is right isn’t it?) likes to tug at the carpet, try fixing down some or the chew toys you got to a board. They seem to like to gain purchase on the floor and really tug at fixed things where as they toys just move about and can’t be demolished unless held down be delicate bunny paws.
Their are several play ‘types’
Digging
Chewing
Throwing
etc.
Soooo you want to try all-the good thing (for your wallet) is you don’t have to buy all these toys that will be rejected! Most are avileable as things in your home!!
Try giving a phonebook, towel, cardboard box (cut two holes in it at least), popsicle sticks, toilet paper rolls, shredded paper, slinky, stuffed animal etc. There are sooooo many rabbit appropriate toys that you have in your home!
Maybe your bun likes climbing and jumping and running most? Try getting a cat tunnel and/or condo from the petstore! They love these play places and hide holes!
Also some buns like TV or radio for comfort and stimulation too! Not toys but something to keep them busy!
My Booker is quite stuck up when it comes to toys. Very particular. I tried everything at the pet store and she really wasn’t interested in much. Her favorites have been the Loofah toys, great to munch on. She really likes the straw balls with a bell inside, she likes to roll them around and chew a hole so she can get the bell out. Her all time favorite thing is her boxes. I have cut holes in several boxes and put them all together. She likes to run trhough and play in them. Also, I made the Jellyfish (see the Toys section of BinkyBunny). She loves to play in there. I just poked a bunch of holes in the top of the box and them threded strips of newspaper into them. She likes to run through it. Hope this helps!
Fern likes to dig in her diggy box and she likes to dig and chew cardboard. I even made her the jellyfish and she dug it vertically. She is a digger alright. She even digs her hay box.
Fern also loves it when i make her cardboard boxes. I get a nice free big box from BJ’s and take the plastic tape off it, retape it closed with masking tape and cut a few holes in it, Voilla, hours of fun for Fern. But sometimes I ask why fern chose to be fond of the playing type that is the most noisy…
She also Loves the willow balls from binky bunny. Too bad they are not sold in bulk. That is the only thing she likes to chew besides cardboard and phone books. She loves phone books too, but mostly she loves cardboard boxs.
Yeah mine is definitely a digger and a jumper. That’s all she does. I’ve tried a diggy box though and she’s not interested! Only interested on things that are not supposed to be dug. Any ideas for some activity she could do where she could jump? The cat condo could work though it might be a little expensive. I’ve also thought about a maze for her but I’m afraid she won’t be interested!

You could always find a couple of extra boxes and with some scissors and tape you could make a homemade type of maze to see if she likes it. I can’t get Felony out of his during the day.
I made my buns a maze out of some cardboard boxes too and they love it. The more entrances and windows the better. It’s a permanent fixture now in my living room. Very classy!
Anything willow in my house is a chewy fun thing….I have the willow tunnel, the willow tent, and the willow hay bin. Sometimes I like to ball up newspapers and shove them into their tunnel. I will also put newspaper through my shredder to make a dig box w/ the shreds. Leo loves to throw the shreds and the paper balls everywhere. It makes a huge mess…but he gets so happy & excited.
In my classroom the kids liked to build elaborate cardboard houses for the rabbits. I have the Binky maze & my buns LOVE it. I too sometimes stuff it w/ newspaper and they love it.
Our buns love phone books ( with all the laminated pages taken out ), news paper, cardboard, a castle we made out boxes ( held together with cable ties, our buns eat tape ), egg cartons, fleece draped low, an old pair of jeans.
Things I buy: Anything willow & Zig Zag Shredders, raffia, sisal rope & wood blocks to make our own toys. All safe & unteated from Bunny Bites. http://www.bunnybytes.com/cgi-bin/newsearch.cgi?code=10&step=1&cart_id=12699003
Also, a lot of pet stores carry toys for birds that are also safe for rabbits.
I bought the rattle off Binky Bunny. Buddy loves it and has played with it every day for 2 years. He tosses it, pushes it with his nose. The more noise he makes, the better he likes it.
Frankie really doesn’t like toys either… he’ll occassionally tear up a phone book or cardboard and LOVES to eat paper (no matter what kind).
I found that he’ll play with stuff if I make it more enticing for him. One that was really successful was a tightly woven grass ball with a bell inside. I decided to shove a raisin inside it and that made him play with it for hours and tear it apart instead of my carpet or my walls! Haha. Always worth a try to find a toy you can stuff a treat in!
