Went to the new vet this morning (with a wonderful Ambien hangover on my part) and I have found her to be a delightful person to deal with. She seems knowledgable and confident in her craft and was excellent with Mimzy today. She even got that oh-so-elusive swab of his nose that my other vet claimed couldn’t be done without anesthesia.

She’ll let me know in four days or so if it’s positive, at which point she’ll prescribe some Baytril. At this time, she felt it would be best to wait for the results. Also she decided his toes were just calloused…so I needed to find something soft for his pen, which I did.

I love the whole feel of her office. Separate entrances for dogs or cats/exotics. Anyone with respiratory difficulties is taken in at a third entrance. Staff are kind and sweet and there’s even a ‘clinic cat’ named Antonio who is the most beautiful little orange marmalade tabby, passed out cold in his sleepy basket right there as you come in. Reminds me of that lolcat that is pictured sticking his hind feet straight at the camera with the caption, “Here…smell DEEZ.” lolz….

Anyway, I feel like a giant weight has lifted off me (and I have the stress headache to prove it, but that’s okay) so when I went to the store after the appointment, imagine my surprise at finding, not only a sisal rope mat to keep Mimzy off his hard plastic floor, (which he so far has not tried to eat-thank God), but the most adorable little mug at Starbucks that I just had to have. (Pictures of all below-I included the box desgins because they are SO binkybunny!)

Sooo…for now, we wait. She did caution me to keep Mimzy separate from the other buns. Pip was sneezing earlier today, but I think she just snucked some broccoli florette up her nose.

(Mimzy and his mat in this post, mug pix in next post as my Firefox times out if I try to upload them all at once.)

That is a REALLY awesome sounding vet Mimz! I am JEALOUS! O.K. that’s it, I’m not moving to Canada anymore (which I have seriously considered given the state of our economy and set up camp near by to K & K to help with her shelter), I’m moving to Alaska! LOL I love the mug!

              Mimzy,
I saw that book tonight with a huge stuffed bunny the size of Holly. If I had brought money with me, I’d of gotten it.

                That cup is adorable!

So glad you found a new vet that you like! How’d you find this her?

Keep us updated about the results.

lolz, Holly I have the small plush of this rabbit and I can remember reading the story to my kids when they were little. It’s a cute little bedtime ditty.
BB, I was recommended to this vet when I phoned another hospital nearer to us than my current vet and they told me about her. Oddly enough, this is the hospital that my son’s dog was taken to after the hubby ran him over with the car last May. It’s much smaller than my other vet, and I’d have to say at this point, 200% more affable. It was an expensive test, but I feel so much better having had it done. And surprise, surprise…no laughing gas, kennel fees or worry about Mimzy waking up properly! Hmmm. 0_<

I will be sure to post results as soon as they are known.

lolz…Rose, if you’re coming up here, bring your long johns…it’s been a cold one this year! ^_^

OH, and tell anyone that visits you for an extended period of time in the winter to bring some light therapy bulbs! It’s darker than what the lower 48 is used to. I was born there, and so it never bothered me, but if I went back now, I’d have to soak up more light than what mother nature gives in the major winter months.   Though, ScarletRose – the aurora borealis makes all that darkness worth it.   Or at least that’s the way I remember it….

I also have to check out our local starbucks tomorrow to see if they carry that cup!  I hope so.

wow mimz… your new vet sounds just like the one i was just at with baby bun (poor dear)!  sep entrances for exotics… very knowledgable and sweet staff… and an orange tabby ‘clinic cat’ that has a bed right infront of the reception when you come in!  are you sure you don’t live in guelph ontario?

lolz…That’s cute BBM. I have often thought Canada may be the way to go for me, I haven’t been there since I was thirteen though.

I believe your province was spotlighted on our local news as Prez O went to visit. I love the old buildings in the capital, gosh those are gorgeous!

Yeah, you can tell the light is increasing here, Jen, Mimzy is beginning to wake from his winter sleep. He is tossing toys and chewing on stuff now, whereas he was just moping for the last four months. If ‘m lucky, this whole episode was just the culmination of the cold weather doldrums. (Of course, now Fiver is starting to poop on his bed because he is jealous of the attention Mimzy is getting…good grief!)

Which reminds me….*off to the BB.com store* I screwed up yesterday and laundered the last bag of “veggie smaks” which was tucked into the compartment on top of the carrier…what a dufus! >.< (ALL the bunnies like them now, so I am so glad the sweet treats are not in demand as much as they were!)

I can’t wait to take Fiver and Pip to the new vet…which will be when I can get an appointment to have their nails trimmed, since she did such a smashing job with Mim. Probably when I go back to get his meds.

lolz, BBM, from the sound of the Congress during his big speech tonight, I’d say you’re not the only one crushin’. ^_^ I wonder if he found the snowglobe and keychain for his daughters he was looking for?

BB, maybe because my Starbucks is inside my Barnes and Noble bookstore? Tell you what, if they still have them there when I next go in, I’ll get one and send it to you, okies? ^_^ I’m thinking of getting another one for me, so I have a set, lol.

I wonder if there’s a teapot that goes with them?

Mimzy – OH no, no, don’t do that as the shipping is just crazy to and from fairbanks. I am sure I will be able to google this cup and track it down. BUT I wanted to say THANK YOU for the very very sweet thought and offer to send me one. Very sweet.

Okay, Jen, but it would be no trouble, seriously. If you can’t find one, let me know.

And so far, I should know by tomorrow if Mimzy has the Big P or not. The vet he saw is out fo the office till Friday.
I hope she comes up with something definite and treatable. He was still sneezing this morning and hawked up a big loogie. And I can’t grab them away from him in time…little bugger. Snarfs it straight down…like Stitch.

I just want him to get well!

I am keeping my fingers crossed for Mimzy that something can be found and treated! I know this has been one long venture into figuring it all out.

Well it’s almost 1 PM here, I called at 11 this morning and they still didn’t have the results back yet. *grr* Apparently the (human) hospital lab does the testing. Does anyone else usually have this long to take getting a result back on a nasal swab?

I am VERY eager to get Mimzy and Pip back together for another attempt at bonding. But now I have to wonder, if he comes back positive, do I want to put them together again? Could he have already passed something to her that just hasn’t manifested yet? Could she still be clean? *sigh* The idea of having to have the other two swabbed or draw blood to see if they are making antibodies just sets my teeth on edge. But I’ll cross that bridge next Thursday-as by then I should know what’s going on with Mimzy and the doc and I can decide if the other two need treatment.

Luckily this vet is open on weekends, so I may still be able to get medicine if necessary.

                                            MM,
Don’t know how I missed this thread, but am just catching up on news of new vet & Mimzy now. She sounds like just what the Dr. ordered for your peace of mind. The whole swab of the nose issue was a bit over the top. (hold bunny nose, insert finger. Pick.) Just kidding. I’m really relieved he’s now in good hands.

My vet doesn’t work with anything but exotics. That actually was a factor in my apartment location last fall. I wanted a new bunny I could still take to her. So important when you find one you like.

Awaiting results. Open on weekends? Good.

lolz…Pam, what IS Sammykins wearing in your siggy? It looks like a kabuki kimono or something! ^_^

LOVE the nasal swab instructions! xD Yes, I can imagine it would be SO easy to do, just can’t figure out how my other vet thought it would be a major production. Mimzy was MOST cooperative and even sneezed out a big old globber for us right then and there.

ANYWAY (sorry for thsoe having dinner at the time of this writing) Mimzy has been diagnosed with branhamella catarrhalis. Even the vet had to go look it up. 10 days of enroflaxcin should do the job, plus I’m getting a probiotic, although she is unsure he’ll need it. And she even took into account that he doesn’t like cherry flavor, she’s getting him meds with apple essence.

I am impressed enough already…but to call me at 8PM on a Friday night to be sure we got him started tomorrow morning…now THAT’S dedication!

                                              I gots me a new vet…yush! *dances*

I had to look that up too! I wikied it and it seems to be a bacteria that causes respitory infections so that sure fits! Well, I am so glad that you have an attentive vet! It really does help so much.

That’s excellent, MM. He’s going to feel so much better. I assume it isn’t contagious or she would have given you instructions about the other two. (Probably after all these weeks he’s way past infectious, even if it is.) It also sounds like she’s hooked up with an excellent lab to find such a difficult to diagnose cause. Coming out of the woods finally. Whew.

And she’s wearing a dish towel. You saw my other thread by now. Going to have “put de lime in da coconut” in my head all day now.

Great news about Mimzy and the vet! I was so glad to hear it! I wasn’t following this post this week unfortunately, I’ve been a bit behind because of the flu

I LOVE the idea that the dogs and cats/rabbits have separate entrances at your vet! One of the worst things about going to the vet is the waiting room when your there with a terrified bunny and there are 2 or 3 dogs whimpering and barking. Total bunny emotional trauma!

Well now see, that just the thing, LPT…the last time Mimzy was at my old vet, there was a dog in the lobby who was hacking it’s head off…I had just finished paying up and was going to use the loo. Now my bad for not getting the buns out of there right away, but I figured there was plenty of distance between them and this dog. (Thinking back, most likely not.)

The receptionist whispers to the owners of the dog, “Oh, he shouldn’t be in here, he could give that to other animals,” and they ushered him away. So my hubby, bless him, goes and has a talk with the receptionist about this while I’m indisposed and she turns around and tells him, “Oh no, dogs don’t communicate disease like this to rabbits.”

                                                        Ummm…yeah. Ooookay.

Can’t prove it, but if that was the policy there, even having Shadow there for his surgery could’ve brought something home on him that transferred to the bunnies and Mimzy was just the unlucky one whom it landed on, so….

Can’t second guess it. Have to just do my best not to let it happen again. *nods* But I would give my left arm to know how he came down with this, for sure. And if he could be a carrier afterward, like with the Big P.

And yes, the vet told me to keep the three bunnies apart. She doesn’t want to take chances either. This gal is GOOD. ^_^
