So I put my new bunny (Who hasnt got a name yet) And Foofoo in the bathtub, a netrual area, and they fought. I grabbed Foofoo out as soon as it looked serious and put her back in her pen. I cheaked Foofoo over and she looked fine, then i went backinto the bathroom were new bun is living right now, and cheaked her over. I found a chunk of fur with some skin on the end and freaked and cheaked her everywere, i found this cut under her eye. Right under, im so glad it wasnt in her eye!!! But the bottom of her eyes getting red….im worried about it. Im going to call the vet tomorw, i hope they have an opening! I wanted to get her cheaked anyways to see her health, shes a rescued bunny from someones house, shes had a few previous owners and wasnt in the best of enviroments when i got her today (See my other post in the lounge for pictures and her full story) and shes really over weight.

Anything i should put on it? I wiped a klenex under to see if there was bood, there wasnt, and wet a q tip with cold ater and dabbed it on the cut, it might help her feel better….she hasnt eaten anything and shes been her for alost 3 hours….i think shes just nervous. I duno if anyone has any tips thatd be great…

I see that this was posted last night, so I’m hoping you are able to get Nameless bun to the vet today. Has she eaten anything yet? I know Wally didn’t eat much his first night home, but he did eat something. Have you tried hand feeding some veggies or even a raisin (even though I see she has a weight problem) to get her appetite going?

Keep us posted on how she’s doing!

a few weeks ago when I was at the shelter trying to find a bond mate for my bun, one of the other rabbits, ran up to my boy Royce and ripped fur out right between his eyes.  He was petrified and tried to find a way out of the x-pen.  I checked his face and it was just a bald spot.  One of the volunteers there told me that sometimes when the fur is pulled out like that some skin may rip off too.  She also told me that if that happens and you can see the muscle that the rabbit will need stitches.  If it is a small cut she told me to put neoporin or polysporin on it and it should clear right up (but you should still check it daily for an absess).  However, since it’s near your rabbit’s eye, I would be careful about putting something on it because it could easily get rubbed into the eye.

A rabbit that I brought home from the shelter was in a fight with her sister and has a few scabs here and there.  When I took her to the vet for a check up, he checked for abesses and said that the scabs would just fall off and it was fine.

Maybe give your rabbit a bit of time to calm down before worrying that its not eating…like an hour or so.

She started eating later that night, I left her a few baby carrots and she ate them. Shes eating really well now, she loves the food i have for her, which is alot healthyer than the stuff she had before. She likes the timmy hay i left for her to. She drinks alot of water….more than any of my other bunnys!

We ended up not going to the vet, because my vet as ive mentionedin other post really is under quilifyed, he doesnt know how to treat rabbits. If the cut changes, looks swollen or inflamed or anything ill get her to a vet ASAP, but its healing fine now.

She had poopybum for while but it seems to have cleared up now.

Hi tiger.lily! I would wash the wound with a diluted peroxide solution to ensure that it stays clean, heals and does not get infected. Use a bit of Neosporin on it and check it every day. It really concerns me that the eye itself is irritated and you haven’t found a qualifed vet to take your rabbit to. Perhaps if you let us know you general location, we can help you locate one?

The fast that its so close to her eye, right under makes me hesitant to put anything on it, because i dont want to risk irratation to her eye. I washed it with a bit of water on a Q-tip…It still isnt swollen or over inflamed….I live in yellowknife NT. We have two vets in the area (There is a total of three in the whole terrotory) and none are rabbit qulifyed.

Sorry tiger.lily, wow you are way out there. I had to look up where Yellowknife is in the Northern Territories and am sorry there isn’t a savvy vet nearby. The water & q-tip is a good idea, do you have any saline solution to use instead? That could also be used to flush the eye out and would not hurt.

Your sure it wont irritate her eye?

I’m fairly certain it won’t. I use it to irrigate my Daffodil’s eye out (she has allergies to hay).
