        My little Jessica bless her has a little bald patch under her chin, on her dewlap really. She doesn’t drool, but it does seem a little sticky or sweaty. Anyway, I’m booking her in with the vet. Does anyone else have any experiance of this. The web seems to suggest she may have dental problems. She’s eating fine though, as usual! Can anyone think of anything else it could be??

          Well, just based on that it’s possible it’s dental problems. Has she had a change in eating habits? That’s another indication of dental problems. Usually they shun their pellets or vegetables or else they may try to eat their veggies and it falls out their mouth – I think it’s more the chewing sensation and that their mouth hurts which is why they drop their food. Usually it’s not any one thing but a combination of things. I also notice with my rabbit who had molar spur problems he will do funny things with his mouth like he’s trying to get comfortable or to decrease the discomfort by moving his mouth around.

            Good think your taking her in-if it’s dental she’ll definitely need some vet help! {{Jessica}}

              My Leo never really had an issue w/ eating his food, that’s why I didn’t realize he had a dental issue.  The vet told me that if I ever notice dried or damp fur on his chin that this was likely his teeth.  He also said to look for a watery eye.  One thing I’ve found is that dental issues can look different on various rabbits.  It’s a very good idea to get him checked.  Please keep us posted.

                Thanks for your responses, she’s eating really well. She will eat anything and everything!! When she came round from her spay the vet was surprised the first thing she did was start eating! She’s still attacking the carpet and chewing her sticks. She chewed her sticks all night last night, I could hear her, and when I woke up the patch under her chin was dry? but still a little bald? Could it also be obbsessive grooming. Could she be bored? She does live with her little friend Tommy, perhaps he doesn’t provide enough mental stimulation?!!

                  If your vet rules out dental issues  ..

                  Do you have a water bottle or a crock.   If a crock sometimes it can get the dewlap wet.  It is a girl bunny right?  My mind just flew out the window.

                  Of course though the vet needs to see her.  Take care.

                    If it is the beginning of teeth problems, it is good to try and catch it before they can no longer eat or chew. Let us know what the vet says!

                      No she has a bottle not a crock. You know what it looks like. When they have their spay operation and they spay them they have a shaved patch that grows back baby hair. We brushed her hair there, and big clumps fell out in a patch, the baby hair is underneath I’m also thinking maybe it was because she’s getting a bit fat now. We’ve cut out pellets and are only offering hay and veg . We used to give her little bits of apple and banana which she loved, but I think this also could be making her dewlap sticky and matted. She can’t reach it to clean it. I find it really bizarre. I’ll keep you all posted, she seems her ordinary self otherwise?

                        poor does and their dewlaps.   sort of like women with overly large well you know….        women and our problems affects other species too.

                        HOpefully her teeth are good.  If it is then you will have caught it early

                          Rucy has teeth issues and  will have a wet chin and dewlap when her teeth develop “spurs”: Saliva seems to come down from the corners of her mouth and soak under her chin.  Jack, my other bunny will clean the sides of her face, (as well as Rucy will too),but with the wetness that’s underneath her chin can’t  dry well, and so it can get sticky and stays damp.

                          She has to get her spurs trimmed so definitely ask the vet to check Jessie’s teeth.
