Okay, excuse my ignorance…..I’m not exactly sure what this veggie is.  I just bought a bunch and it wasn’t labelled and my docket reads “Misc.”  Looks kind of like spinach variety but doesn’t have that bumpy surface.  Slightly pointed leaves and a few have a light purple on the back but most don’t.

Help this ignorant veggie person!  OH yeah, it tastes like grass and so far the rabbit has refused to eat it!

It almost looks like “adult” arugula to me….

Maybe turnip greens? Maybe it’s spinach. Did they really list this as misc? That’s weird but funny.

              It is pretty!

I think arugula has 3 points on their leaves.   Then again I only got it once and my buns love it.     Hmmm this is interesting.

I went to google and it looks like collard greens.   Not arugula. Collard greens are real stinky when you cook them.

Definitely looks like a “green” with those thick stems, I was also thinking turnip greens, which my buns won’t eat too readily…

The closest thing I can find is Amaranth (also called Thotakura, chauli, mulakeerai and about 50 other names!) I only think this because of this image I found. I have no idea what this is supposed to taste like.

Yes, we need to know! Because it’s looking like I’m going to be the one eating it all ! lol

Maybe I should go back to the fruit&veg market and ask hey!

Cassi, I though some type of chicory too but the leaves are too wide and paler. The stalk is similar to chicory though.

                            Hello,

Its spinach. It looks very much like the specie of spinach grown in Nigeria (Africa).

Well it’s Chinese Spinach! I was at my fruit&veg store this week and they had more – this time labelled. Also Asian spinach, and African as Rella said.   So I’ve steamed and frozen it for later use.  Bunny not interested!  Was high in oxalates anyway so best not to give to her anyway.
                                FYI…
Chinese spinach (Amaranthus gangeticus) is a member of the Amaranthaceae family, and is one of a number of cultivated species. The Amaranth family is a very large group of plants, and includes a number of important herbs of the tropics. The Amaranth family originated in the American, African and Asian tropics, but are now grown all over the world.

                                Other Names
Amaranthus, Edible amaranth, Edible amaranth spinach, Bayam (Malaysia and Indonesia), Calaloo (Caribbean) and Klaroen (Surinam). It is also named Xian cai in Mandarin, Yin choi/In tsoi in Cantonese and Hi-yu-na in Japanese. Also Asian spinach
