        Hello!

I just purchased a bunny today from a local pet store. The owner wasn’t around, only his father, and he had no clue what breed of rabbits they had  nor how big they will get.  I have had rabbits in the past but it has been a long time.  So here is my new bunny!  If anyone knows I would appreciate it!

Wow, that’s a gorgeous little bun! I can’t think of a breed that pops into my head looking at this little guy… he might be mixed. Maybe another member will be able to give you more insight!

Wow, that’s a big bowl of food for one little bunny! Have you gotten him some hay yet?

Yes, I definately am getting him a smaller bowl.  He (or she, I’m not sure), has plenty of Timothy hay and he will have it all the time.  I bought a little holder for it so my bunny can easliy access it.  I’m pretty sure I got everything I need, I learned a lot from this web site and others about all the things that I need to care for a bunny.  I haven’t picked out a name yet, but he is very sweet and not shy at all!  I’m very excited about having him and getting to know his personality more.  Thank you for your reply!!  Your probably right about the rabbit being mixed, I’ve look at hundreds of picutres of different breeds online and I’m still not sure.  If he stays small that is great, but I don’t mind if he gets big either.   Also, when I bought the bunny the little petstore wasn’t in that great of shape.  The cage floor for the bunnies were wire (I read that wasn’t good for their feet) and they were all eating on a big tomato (which I also read that is a food that should not be fed to bunnies!).  So I hope that I made the right decision about getting him, I feel like I rescued him from the petstore.

First off, welcome to the forum! (:
& whatever he is, he is one beautiful lil’ guy! Maybe agouti? dwarf agouti? idk, def not a rabbit expert but just my lame guess. A tomato? gee that does not sound good! It’s great your researching this stuff, a lot of people don’t know wire isn’t very comfortable for rabbits.

Hi, Congrats on the new bunny! It’s great you’ve done some research before getting him/her. Likely a mix and likely a baby. Petstores seem to sell them young because they are so irresitable. So, I know I shouldn’t consider his size just yet…..but I can see some netherland dwarf in him. Maybe N dwarf cross holland lop? I thnk he may be agouti coloured as well. Funny how I keep referring to him as a “he”! Anyway, welcome here!

What a cutie! Yup, I would agree he is more than likely a dwarf cross. I love his colour. It reminds me of a baby wild rabbit.

What a cute little rabbit!!! His fur is really pretty too. I’d go along with the consensus and say that he’s a Netherland or a Nettie Mix. His head shape is exactly like my Netherland and he seems to be fairly small. They’re a fairly popular breed, so I wouldn’t be surprised if a pet store carried them. Sounds like you did rescue him! Wire cages and tomoatoes! Sounds horrible, but I’m glad that little bunny found you

What an adorable baby. Honestly it’s hard to know his breed – we can only speculate. His coloring is called Agouti though – it’s like the color of the wild rabbits. He has little ears but it could be just baby bunny ears which I guess is why many think he may be a dwarf mix.

Just noticed! does he have blue eyes?? That is unusual, my rabbit has grey-blue eyes, but she’s a chincilla. Perhaps that is just because he is a baby?
