        Do rabbits shed in “seasons”?

Meco seems to be going through a major shed right now – you can pluck her, literally, and the fur just keeps on coming.  I just wanted to be sure I shouldn’t be worried about her health and I haven’t had her long enough to know this is a normal volume for a shed.

Sounds normal.  Do they shed in seasons??? Hehehe! Well Beka mentioned this recently and I have also read it somewhere.  That bunnies do shed in seasons – All Summer, All Autumn, All Winter, All Spring!  Seriously though, weather can trigger a shed.

BinkyBunny posted this link in another thread regarding shedding,  I found it quite good – hope you do too. (Article is split over 2 pages)

OH dear blowing the coat.   Yeah seems like it lasts forever.

Here in florida we have had freezing a couple of times then high 70’s then freezing then 80’s  uck.   So Ruby and Cotton are shedding then they aren’t then they are.  This  has my household very confused.

              Okay thank god!

That’s the kind of weather we’ve been having around here – 60 one day, sub zero the next. She doesn’t really love being brushed, so i’ve taken to grabbing her fur and tugging all over her to loosen it up…it comes off in clumps, and then we just chase her around with the brush and get in a swipe when we can. Everywhere she “hangs out” is white with a cushion of bunny fur.

Just an update. I remember a post a while ago about lint brushing your rabbit.

I’m here to tell you – it works.

I’ve only had my bunnies for a week and a half and I’ve read so much about the shedding – something I’m not looking forward to, yikes!

Actually, even though they aren’t shedding, I still brush them every evening in fear that they will explode in fur any second now.

maybe I’m lucky and Rex’s don’t shed, right?

Actually, when I was at the shelter picking out my two girls, there was a big fat black and brown lop bunny there.  I picked her up thinking she was just adorable.  As soon as I touched her it was like *POOF!!*  Hair went everywhere.  Hair was going in my mouth, nose, eyes, everywhere!  I was like “awww *cough* you’re *cough* adora- *cough* adorable.  *cough cough*  Gonna put *cough* you down now *HACK cough* slowly”  And then I somehow had a hair ball.  lol

lol! That’s funny. That is one of the joys of having what *some* perceive as the “more adorable” lop bunnies. You also end up with more fur. Rexes shed but it’s not usually as bad as with other breeds. I can brush my lop and I pull out tons of fur, even when he’s not shedding. With my mini rex, she gives up just a little bit of fur but she still sheds. The rex fur is kind of… “lighter” so I think it tends to fly around a bit more…
