  So Henry choked on a food pellet the other day and I had to rush him to the vet (although he did manage to get it down 20mins later during our drive to the vet – its an hour away). Since he couldn’t really breath on the way to the vet (he was wheezing, sqeaking, and occasionally choking) at first I decided to bring him alone (a huge bonded bunny no-no) but I know that my big Lilly is scared of car rides and literally will sit ON TOP of him for comfort during the rides – and since he couldn’t breath in the first place I didn’t bring her.
  
  Well anyway we arrived home later that evening (long day for my poor bun!) about 8-9hrs later and I put him back with Lilly.. that entire rest of the day and the next day and now even they are INSEPERABLE.. they have been following eachother around, cuddling, etcetc.. they must have missed eachother – it is SO CUTE!!!

  Phew! Close call. Good to hear he’s okay. Lilly must have sensed something was wrong. Obviously the bond wasn’t severed
  
  Choking and gagging has come up quite a bit in the forums recently. This is what member DallasDelight posted about the Heimlich maneuver:
  
  edit: rabbitsmba; sorry I forgot to explain the bunny heimlich maneuver! here it is:
  1. Put bun in a very secure(you don’t want them falling out onto the floor!) bunny burrito
  2. Hold them at about a 45 degree angle from your chest/stomach with your arms running like poles down their back, with their back feet feet(at least where their feet would be if they weren’t wrapped up) touching your stomach
  3. Swing them towards the floor, NOT TOO FAST! but not too slow either! just in a smooth downward motion.
  basically when you swing them, pretend like your arms are on hinges at your elbows, so you stay with your elbows touching your stomach the whole time. Don’t swing them so they are 100% upside down with the floor, just enough to dislodge something stubborn!
  
  Handy to know incase this ever happens again and you can’t get to a vet.

  Awww phew! I’m glad he’s OK now and that’s so cute!! I took Kokanee to the vet once without Kahlua ( I hadn’t even thought they should go together) I brought Kokanee home and she was so tired, from being awake all day at the vets-Kahlua was bouncing off the walls excited to see her, liking her and trying to get her to play-it was so cute Kokanee looked like the older teen who gets stuck babysitting and Kahlua was just so obviously excited to see her-it was very heart warming.

  Thats so sweet I’m glad that everything worked out OK in the end, you must have been so scared with a choking bunny – I know that I would have been!

  oh wow. a bunny heimlich manuver! i will never forget this.. it was SO SCARY when he was choking I felt so helpless!
