I was just wondering if anyone else has bunnies that bite their own nails?  I have two bunnies that do this, I think one learned it from the other, but they can be caught every once and awhile with their nails in their mouth.  When we go to give them nail trims we just even them off a bit because they bite them very short.  Have I raised neurotic bunnies?

Ha! That’d be good if they took care of it themselves. I would wonder if it’s anything to do with a dietry imbalance but could be a not regularly seen habit. I have wondered what wild rabbits do. I just figure there nails wore down by scratching around on hard surfaces like rock or tree bark. Maybe they trim them themselves too…?

Hoopie does this. We thought he was the only one! We can’t ever trim his nails because he keeps them very short.

So funny..this is why my vet called him a Metrosexual bunny! Because the boy trims his own nails, keeps his hair so nice and tidy and I swear would never leave his cage if he had a mirror to look at himself all day.

We kinda think that Hoopie kinda had to learn this on his own. His owners thru him out about 6 months before we got him. He was still young but figured since they didnt cut his nails that he needed to do it himself if he wanted his nails short.

I had a cat that did the same thing- it was very odd, I could only trim a tiny bit off when I trimmed his nails.  Wiley was also an overgroomer too and often sported a near bald fuzzy belly too- so I just attributed it to that.

You have a funny bunny.   This is very interesting I never heard of them doing this.  Hmm solves  the nailtrimming problem   lol. Be glad you dont’ have to do it.

My dog bites off her nails when they get too long for her liking as well. I guess they’re just trying to be helpful? Haha. I wouldn’t complain.. bunny nails are not easy to trim. Bunnies are very determined and stubborn.

I was wondering the same thing, my Dutch boy Daisy never has long nails, and the quick runs all the way to the very tip. He’s a Metro bunny too, obsessive hare dresser both on himself and Lola (will those tan spots EVER come off?)
