        I currently own a horse and a pony –

Kayo – an almost 23 yo Appaloosa gelding whom I’ve owned since he and I were both 11 (so coming on 11 years)

and Misty, an almost 10 yo Paint/Shetland mare I’ve owned since she was born at my family barn in 1999.

Recently, my boyfriend and I began discussing buying a horse. I’ve been antsy to get another horse, since Misty is too small for me to really ride and show and Kayo has reached retirement age.

There was a horse at the barn I’m currently at that my bf and I fell in love with. However, the barn owners and the horse’s owners, for some reason, were determined not to sell him to us. I was lied to, falsely led along trails and otherwise wrapped in a whole bunch of drama that I have never encountered in the horse world.

With heavy hearts, my bf and I said that trying to buy a horse should not be like this, and we tearfully kissed the horse we loved and said we tried…

Meanwhile, I found an ad for a coming 5 yo Percheron/Paint gelding named Sulley, who had basic groundwork done but has only been backed a handful of times. We decided to go and look at him, and see if we got along with him as well as our first choice horse.

Well, my boyfriend loved him. I loved him. Wonderful personality, no bite, no crankiness, just a loveable oaf. After some discussion, we decided to go for it. So, called up his owners last night and made the sale We go to pay for him on Sunday.

I am so excited to train a horse myself. And, to finally be able to go to shows, and ride how I want to. See, with Kayo – my appy, he has a front leg issue called Navicular Disease that meant I was never able to do much with him.

Sulley’s a chunky butt. He’s overweight but he’s a sweetheart. My bf is super excited to be able to go riding together

Without further ado, our new horse Sulley!

I’m slobbering over his amazing trot extension!

Yes, that is the top of a fencepost you see. That’s how much damn snow we have.

And these are from his owner – what he looks like in the summer!

He’s beautiful. That second picture, I thought he was a mule! Haha.. with that white muzzle and his scruffiness. But it looks like he sheds out beautifully!

Congrats! I love draft crosses. I want a Morgan/Draft Cross. Maybe I’ll breed my mare to a Percheron someday. And yes, that trot extension is pretty slobber worthy.

You think he’s going to grow anymore? His butt’s still a bit high. He’s only about 15.2 HH right now…turning 5 in June.

Well if he’s only 4 and part draft I think he may grow a bit more during the summer, but it’s hard to know for sure. Just keep a measure tape around.

Can you get a good conformation shot of him on flat ground? If he’s draft it could be six before he’s done spurting and filling out, and maturing.

What discipline are you planning on training him in?
