…to siphon out all the nasty dust and fur and whatnot that seems to be eternally collecting in the bunnies’ night pens during the day. (Washing those bulky things out in my shower every day would NOT be practical.)

What say you? Do you think something that small would be effective? (instead of getting one of those clunky Dust Devils? Dirt Devils? whatever… 0_o ) It would just be for touch ups, so that I can keep irritants down, especiallly for Mimzy.

I’m not quite sure what you’re talking about… do you have a pic or link of what it is? I would be concerned, assuming it’s small, that small would not equal powerful and might get clogged easily. I do think you’d be better off with a regular handvac if it’s not powerful. If it’s only made for little bits of dust or crumbs, I’m not sure how that will handle fur and hay.

A little bit different way of getting extra dust out of the air would be to make a “cheap person’s” air filter- my husband did this in the room that has our parrots- we already had the box fan in the window as the window is open an inch or 2 except in the winter and the air blows “out” not in- to make sure they don’t get chilled if the temp drops but keeps air exchange going.

He bungee-corded a approp size furnace filter to the box fax- and the filter picks up a lot of bird dander and dust- and is easily thrown away.

Why don’t you just vacuum the corners/cages daily with regular vacuum? My bunnies are so used to the vacuum they do not care as long as vacuum does not touch them.  Did you know a Dyson is so powerful a full grown Mini Lop can be momentarily stuck to it, and a Holland Lop (oops) sticks for a few more seconds.  When I was trying to bond the girls I was cleaning cages and they got into a scuffle and I used what I had in my hand to push them apart (but I was vacuuming at the time so the vacuum was on).

My bunnies don’t my when I vacuum their cages or room.  In fact Cotton will not lunge at the vacuum- she will calmly watch- but will lunge at my hand if it sweeping poos into a pile with a small brush and dustpan- so I usually vacuum.

              *giggles*

Those keyboard vacs are a wast of time.  Get yourself something like a dust-buster for in-between-cleans.

LOL Katnip! That’s a great alternative to a water bottle during bonding sessions… (kidding, of course.)

lolz…Oh Katnip you slay me! I am trying to picture bunny with his/her poor little bunny bum stuck to a powered on vacuum! Shame on you! lolz…. ^_^

*sigh* It’s not just the bunnies who abhor the noise…my little cat, Griff, is terrified by any vacuum sound and I try really hard not to startle my pets, but it’s getting to the point where I am desperate to keep even the slightest amount of dust out of their nostrils. It’s not just Mimzy sneezing, but Pip and the cats and I know it must be because they are so close to where the filth settles.

Can anyone recommend (besides that lovely Roomba that I can’t quite afford) a QUIET vacuum? What would you all say is the most noiseless? I know I can’t eliminate all the sound, and I can always keep the animals in another room while I clean, which I have been hard pressed for time to do lately with the dog convalescing indoors…but I’d like to find one that works on stubborn, thick, clay like dust and dirt, but doesn’t sound like a train wreck going right by my head.

                  Many thankies! ^_^

I think the little keyboard vacs are a good idea if you stick with really cheap. I mean, look in a dollar store kind of cheap. they are good for your computer. Also, you can get the cans of compressed air that blows stuff off the keyboard (out of the cracks) rather than vacuum up, then vacuum regularly from the nearby surface. But it’s not something you want to ever pay more than 3-5 bucks for. You can stock up since you’ll be throwing them out.

I like the cordless keyboard – hold over waste basket and shake. Then shake the keyboard.

Years ago when my husband and I bought our first computer and got internet for the first time- if we were not working, we were on the internet (of course back in the day over 1/2 the time was probably waiting for pages to load!).  We ate while on the computer, etc- every muli-tasking possible to maximize computer time.

Anyway- the keyboard was kinda wonky so I turned it over and shook it- I kid you not there were pieces of Cheeto’s and every other kind of snack known to man stuck in that keyboard!  Disgusting.

Now, I never eat while on the computer.  I guess since pages load quicker, it must in part be the efficiency of cable internet and able to look up and reply quickly.  I can’t imagine going back to my computer from 12 years ago and dial up AOL.

I bought one for my IT husband to put in his stocking last year. I paid $10 for it. He loves it! Plugs into his usb port and works great. I dont see why not to use it but I think they are more for keeping at work or in your office-some place where you may not have access to a large vacuum.

Aren’t the hoses for those PC vac’s narrow? I think it’ll get clogged to easily too. Maybe put buns out in x pen while you vac?

My opinion? Stick to household vacs for the cages and PC vacs for the keyboard. I vaccumed the keyboard with a big vac last week. F6 got sucked into the vortex.

                            Oh no, not F6!

Now when you turn on the vacuum cleaner, your printer starts!

                              Hogeeze…rofl! xD
I’m sorry Jerz/Pam, that just tickled the hell out of me. I NEVER use my F keys…I have no idea what the heck they are for except to balance out the overall look of the keyboard.

I just read over this thread and both I and my daughter are about suffocating from laughing so hard…honestly, Bunny Meets Dyson has got me on a whole other train of thought…

Thank God this could never happen, but it just reminds me of some of the strangest 911 calls you’ll hear on some of these late night talk radio shows….Can you imagine showing up at the vet with vacuum in hand and bunny stuck to the other end with the most severe disapproval on it’s face? Or could you see having to explain the little vacuum hickey on his/her bum to the doctor?

I think I’ll just put my bunnies in the xpen, like Jerz suggested.

Oh yeah, me too! Apparently F6 is for printing… I did undertake a extraction/retrieval of F6. It now is in its place being obsolete in the centre top of my keyboard. I keep hitting it hoping it’ll do my vacuuming for me but no luck. Pam, the theory doesn’t work in the reverse!

It IS for printing???? I was just guessing. It’s possible they’re the swearing keys you can pound when your computer is not working right *FFFFFFFFFF*.

They need to make a self-cleaning keyboard. Something that comes with a coffee holder on the side and a bag of M&Ms (for MM to snack on, of course.)

I don’t know!! lol I was just taking your word for it!!! On experimentation, when hitting the F6 key, the URL/web addy on the browser becomes highlighted.

I’m liking the coffee holder /M&M combo! Imagine a Pez dispenser keyboard!!!! You could use the F buttons. Press key and a little trapdoor above it opens and a candy is catatpulted into your waiting mouth. Niiice! You could program different keys for different flavours or types of candy. F1 – M&M F2 – mentos  F3 – skittles….theres 12 options!

Think of it as the antidote to the “what else could go wrong” thread.

Maybe when you hit F6 there, it transfers you here.

BTW, I hit my F6 with the Alt key and got nothing. Hit it again with the Shift key – nothing. It says CLOSE on the top, so I don’t dare hit it straight on, because I’m sure that will close something (my closet door?). Definitely no chocolate anywhere. Useless.

What’s the OT tank? Outer Tank? Outhouse Tub? Other Thread? Over There? Orange Tang? Outrageous Turkey? Old Toad?

I was in BB&Beyond yesterday, saw the mini-Shark hand held vacs, and thought of you immediately!
