Sometimes I go to my parents house to spend time with my family and stay the night.  Would I be better off leaving my bunny at my apartment or taking her the short trip with me so I could have more time with her?  I could set up a habitat at my parents house with everything she needs, but I’m thinking this would confuse her because I know rabbits have one home which they consider their territory.  I’m sure it’s best to leave her in her home, but I just wanted some opinions.  She seems decent on car rides in her pet carrier if that helps.  I know a bunny isn’t like a dog you can just take everywhere with you, but I don’t know if it’s more important for her to stay or to spend more time with her.  So far she just stays at home.  Thanks!

Some rabbits travel well – are your parents close or is it a long drive?

I deleted your double post for you as well.

If you are only going to be gone a night, I would suggest letting her stay at home. That’s what I normally do with Felony. If I’m going to be gone for a couple of days I get one of my friends to feed him and let him run for an hour or so. I could understand if you want to spend time with the buns, but if you are visiting others, how much time are you really going to spend with her? So I would suggest leaving her home for an overnight trip.

Also an admin will probably delete the double post when she sees it.

It’s about a 10 minute drive. I think I would spend time with her (she’d keep me from getting a little bored, haha). But I understand it might be better to let her stay home.

I mean I guess it depends on the bunny. Felony travels very well…. Granted he was a little pissy with me when we spent a week in Canada with my boyfriend and his “evil” cats who were to afraid of him to even come downstairs. So I spent the next week when we got home in a poo battle. You could give it a try and see how she responds.

On the other hand, I live around the corner from my parents, but due to hurricane season here in FL, in the past I have had a smaller, older cage at their house at all times for Spockie. We used to move in with them for a couple of days until it passed.

Sammy started life with us over there, and then moved to my apartment with me. I think she knows and likes my family and would be fine at their house. Spockie loved them. It actually gave them more people in their lives that they knew and saw fairly often, here or there, and since the cage only smelled like the bunny using it, the home-away-from-home was very familiar. There were just new routines in the other place to establish.

It just depends on the bunny-I’d give it a try for sure! She may really like going to ‘grandma’s house’ Ten minutes isn’t such a long trip and if she gets used to travelling go to the vets or on vacation won’t be such a big deal

Like the others said… you could certainly try. If she seems stressed out from the change of location, I might stop doing that unless it were necessary. Be prepared that there might be a bit of territorial marking seeing as its a new space. I know we have other members who are college students and take their buns home over weekends, so it can be done.
