        I must have about 15 bunny litter pans that I rotate out so I don’t have to immediately wash them down if I’m running short of time. But right now, almost all fifteen are sitting in my bathtub, soaking in Nature’s Miracle and waiting to be scrubbed, rinsed and dried.

        Urgh…anyone else have this problem? Most of these have chew marks all over their edges and I worry that this could be harboring germs or the buns could injure themselves on the rough parts. (I tried cutting the ‘doilied’ edge off one pan, but the flat blade of the side is just as sharp.)

          Wow! 15?! That’s insane. I have 4 – but only use 1 and the rest are in storage. One was too small for Noelle when I first got her, so I got #2. And #3 is just a dishpan I got for Wally pre-bonding, which has now been re-purposed for something else, and #4 is big enough for 2 bunnies and the one they both use now. And I suppose there’s a 5th in Calgary at my Mom’s house for when we visit…but still. :-p

          I don’t envy you and your mountain of litter boxes awaiting scrubbing!

          I personally wouldn’t be too worried about the chewed bits, especially since it sounds like you do a good job of disinfecting and keeping clean boxes rotated in. Plus the buns have all that nice fur to protect their skin from being maimed by rough bits. But then again, my buns have never chewed their litter boxes, so maybe I don’t understand the degree of roughness and it’s worse than I’m imagining it.

            I only have one litterbox…The white corner litterbox in Mr. Bunny’s cage that he’s used since we got him. I thought another would be needed if he went around the room, but he just hops in the cage to use it when he needs to ^^

            15 litterboxes is a lot!

              Well I didn’t get them all at once…they’ve just kind of been piling up. 0_o
              I think I’m going to have to ‘thin the crop’ as it were. It’s just too much work for three bunnies to make for me.

                Let see, I probably have about 6 litterboxes. Only 2 being used, I’ve upgraded, switched styles various times, so I have some oldies laying about the place. I have used a product called Scalex before – it’s one of those descaling products that dissolve lime and calsium deposits. I’d dissolve a small amount in warm water and let boxes soak. No scrubbing required! Then I’d rinse and disinfect after.

                Could you put a safe wood capping on the rims of the boxes?

                  I think we have seven…but not to rotate, we keep them full!! That’s a neat idea though-rotate them and clean them later.

                    Nope I have 3 one in the pen one in the hallway and one in the kitchen. I don’t rotate them just clean and put back.

                      I find that if I just leave the vinegar/water and/or baking soda in the boxes for a span, it does a good job of ‘eating’ any scale deposits. But then our water comes from a well and it carries it’s own set of nasty scummy stuffs…so I have to be sure I get that off too.

                      These are pretty cheap mini cat litter pans, Jerz…really it behooves me better to just toss and replace anything that’s getting too grody. Besides…they love wood and I can just see them chewing on the edges fro the pure joy of it…all at 4 in the morning! 0_o;

                        Oh! Well I was thinking if they’re gonna chew, it may as well be the wood but didn’t think about the noise that’d make!

                          lolz…Yeah, it’s a good idea, not to say it’s not. I actually have to take their willow sticks away at night because they chew them on the floors of their pens and that just makes the sound reverberate around the room…sounds like I live with a bunch of beavers, not rabbits! ^_^

                          During the day, I don’t mind a little noisy nom going on. But at night it carries through our house…you can hear it EVERYWHERE. (we have a tiny house) That’s why I’m going to miss the pellets, they make a quieter ‘munch-munch’ sound and that’s rather soothing to hear.
