Petsmart has started carrying Oxbow products and I saw the “Botanical Blend” hay. It looked to me to be just timothy hay, lavendar, and chamomile. I have a ton of all three! I purchase the lavendar and chamomile from a healthfood store and they’re organic. Could I safely mix my own as a treat (and save mucho dinero in the process!)?

i think someone just recently said they do that. it would be less expensive.

Yeh I don’t see why you couldn’t at all!

one thing i’m unsure of… i don’t feed “botanicals” myself, so i don’t know. do they have to be limited as a treat or is there no danger in feeding them as often as you want?

We do this – kind of – I have a great many herbs that we dried from our garden. I generally add them into the salad mix that I make every couple of days – I think of it as an additional “herb sprinkle”.

But I can’t imagine why you couldn’t do it with dried herbs into the hay. And Yes – SO much cheaper – and you could add in dried mints too.

Sa-weet! I just wasn’t sure if it was safe. I generally trust Oxbow but, you know, sometimes the commercialized treats/food/toys are geared more toward people than bun health.

I was thinking as a treat because even though its cheaper for me, it wouldn’t save me much if I gave it to them everyday….plus I’d have none left for me! (I live in in apt. so growing multiple herbs can be hard, especially when I have to keep them out of bunny reach.)

Knock your socks off, it’s what I do myself! It’s so much more cost effective.
