        Hello,
I have my baby bunny in a large cage now- but i like to spoil my animals as much as I can and get the biggest cage that will fit in my designated cage area for when she is full grown. She is only in the cage while I am at work and then she is let out for the rest of the day, and is usually out all day long saturday and sunday

So I like the MY DELUXE HOME _GIANT at petsmart website
        which measures 46.5″ L x 24″ W x 24″ H
        Cost- 89.99 Free shipping

or some people say they like crates… which i would get
life stages fold & carry dog crates – series 1600 double door at petcratesdirect website
        which measures 48 L x 30 W x 33 H
        Cost – $99.00

I use aspen bedding right now since she is a baby – and some day plan maybe to use fleece…. I like the petsmart cage because it has the deep pan…

please let me know which one you guys think make the better cage- cons and pros
        thanks!!!

with buns, the bigger, the better! my personal recommendation would be to go with an xpen. it wll be 4×4 feet (so same length, but about 1.5 feet wider). PLUS, it will be easier to clean and cheaper than the dog crate and the smaller cage… a 36 inch tall pen is about 70-75 bucks.

This is kind of funny but http://www.ferret.com has really cheap prices on pens/play pens and their carriers. You can buy multiple pens and hook them together. I especially love them for traveling because you can also get tarp floors with flaps…..I don’t even own any ferrets!

I own a large pen alreaady for when I take my animals outside. My only issue with the pen is I will not feel secure with a pen – since there is no top and no real structure to it like a cage…. I have 5 cats and 3 dogs – which dont really bother the bunny – but just in case I want a secure cage or crate. Thats why I need to choose from a cage or crate =(

I noticed you wrote that you use aspen in the cage and wanna go to fleece. Have you tried to see if she will go in a smaller litter box even inside of the cage? It would save you some money if she went in a smaller area. I got my bunny at 12 weeks old, and he was potty trained from the beginning. I really appreciate it since my guinea pigs require bedding in their entire area, because they just go allover the place.

If it needs to be all closed in because of the other animals why not go for a NIC condo? All closed in and you could make the best of your space with different levels. Check out this sites ‘cool habitats’ page under the bunny info tab at the top. Some of those NIC pens are large but you could do a 2×3 grid with a few levels and from my shameful mental math it would take up less floor space then the crate would.

what BunnyLiz said! NIC condos are great and they are more secure.

Yes, I have aspen in the cage and have a litter box with yesterdays news in it. SHe has 2 24x15x18 cages connected right now , she poops ans pees in the litter box and then sometimes in the cage where her litter box is, but she never goes in the other side of the cage. She designated the 1 side of the cage and litter box as her outhouse. I have 2 huge bags of aspen left over from my hamster- so i decided i would use them on her since i have no other animals left in the house that can use aspen. Then once it runs out i will use fleece. I like the NIC condos- my questions are…. 1 how do you guys get shelves into them? do you make your own?? Are they stable? and 2 … I want to make sure that the front of the cage opens soo that I dont have to pick her up and anger her to go out for play time…. I want her too be able to walk in and walk out… how do you get the pannels to freely move back and forth since they are all connected by connectors??? Those are the only 2 reasons I have not tried the NIC cages yet

Im not positive how everyone else has their selves attached but i have cheap curtain rods running under mine, through the outside of the cage. The ones that have the hook part at the end, ill post a picture so you know what im talking about. But i ran them through the squares of the cubes so they cant go anywhere. I think others use pieces of wood (like a long bird perch sort of thing) to add support. Then just zip tie the shelf like crazy and its fine. The selves are made out of more NIC cubes all zip tied together. The doors are attached on one side with zip ties, while the top, bottom and other side of the door is left unattached. To close it just buy a few dog leash clips at a hard ware store. Hope all of that makes since lol
