I am so frustrated! Everytime I clean Buster & August’s Litterboxes they keep pushing the litter and Hay all the way around the sides till there is a big empty hole in the middle where they can sit on the bare box! Now I noticed yesterday that their feet are turning Yellow! UGH! ARGH! I hate This! I clean their boxes often and it’s just recently that their feet are yellow… And August LOVEs to lay and stretch out in his Litterbox. I hope he doesn’t start turning yellow all over! LOL!

It’s just aggravating and frustrating to keep these guys happy…  It works my emotions to have these bunnies! They are so adorable though!

Buster Got mad at me last night because I wouldn’t sit there and pet him all night… It was 2 AM and he was making such a commotion so I went to see what was up and I started petting him but the minute I Stopped he would start running around his cage, Thumping and jumping to his top shelf and Look at me and grunt… then do a couple of spins and runs come back and look me in the face and grunt till I would pet him again… Everytime I would stop he would do the same thing… I Could have petted him ALL night and he would have been happy…

        OHHHHH!!!!!

Hahaha, I hope for your sake too that they don’t start getting yellow bunny tummies! People have had a lot of luck putting a wire cover over the litter and then putting hay on top of that, so that pee and poop falls through but they hay cushions the wire for the bunny’s feet.

            LOL!

Yeah I’ve heard about that… I’ve been thinking about doing that… Does the poo and pee fall easily through the hay, though?

I guess you would have to replace the hay more often than you usually would. I don’t really know since my guys dig all their litter out onto the floor then pee on the floor where the litter is, rather than in their litter box, so I just go through a ton of litter.

AHHH! It drives me insane when mine kick just a little bit of litter onto the floor… At least mine pee in their boxes! I need to find another way of holding the hay because when it’s in the litterboxes it ends up all over their cage and outside the cage all over my floor… All the tiny little pieces and hay dust goes everywhere when they eat and kick… They are VERY aggressive hay eaters…

I hate the yellow feet! Or yellow butt. My bunny used to get that when he had a regular litter pan. Now I have the wire topped one.
It is triangular and Bunny always backs his butt into the corner when he goes potty, so I can put hay on the wire except for at the back corner.
I have been considering trying to rig my own litter pan up similarily since the store baught ones are pretty dinky.

I just put a grid on Chucks litter pan. His habits are great but he loooooves to dig and will empty his litter box accross his area at four am. I gave him other stuff to digg of course, but this has worked AWESOME and I so recommend it. We used an NIC cube to trial it but will probably be getting a grate that fits better (we bent the cube to fit)-I put hay on top. I watched him think about digging, find the grate then hop off to his condo, with paper to digg inistead. Its awesome!

Hi! I use a wire cooling rack on the litter to prevent my two from digging their litterbox out. When you go to clean, scoop the top layer of poo & hay off, remove the grid and scoop the urine-soaked litter out. You can also use hardware cloth, but what I do to imbed the grid in the litter is put a very thin layer, lay the rack on top, then cover with more litter and a layer of hay.

I use plastic “egg crate” material. It’s just a square grid made of plastic you can get at a hardware store. We use it for the fish tanks, but I’m not sure what the normal use would be for which section to find it in. It works great though. I was just rejoicing the other day at how white Noelle’s feet are now, and even snuck a few pictures to celebrate their pristine condition while she was stretched out. She was also a litter digger, so this is much less messy and I use much less litter. And since it’s plastic I don’t put any hay over top, just hang it in their hay racks. The grid is pretty small, just big enough for bunny poops to fall through. I have posted pictures of it on another thread…but I’m too lazy to find it right now. Feel free to dig through my old posts though! 🙂

hehe! Bunnymuffin, I still have those pic in my picture folder   The egg crate stuff is sometimes called Glocell.  It’s used for ventilated skylights.  I still haven’t been able to find it though so I resorted to using a panel from a tiered shoe rack – it works pretty well.

Here’s the eegg crate stuff that Bunnymuffin posted previously…..

So the staining has to clear up on it’s own? Guppy my broken tort Holland has some lovely white fur that covers his underside and feet, but the only gleamingly white part is his chest. His feet are stained green and yellow from sleeping in his hay/using the litterbox. I guess there’s no way to clean that off is there?

                              Thanks jerseygirl!

I don’t think there’s really an easy way to clean the fur up, especially if it’s already stained in. It pretty much just grows out on its own over time if you can find a way to keep him from getting into more mess!

Maybe someone else has some cleaning tips I don’t know about yet though…

I hope so, I’ve never see Guppy with clean feet and I want to just once!

It could be that the buns are looking for a cool, flat place to plop down on. I’d try putting something like a bathroom tile in their cages and see how they react to it.

My lop is a beautiful snow white…until you see the bottom of his back feet. They are pretty yellow. I don’t think it bothers him any and he’s not entering any beauty pageants so I just accept the yellow feet as part of his charm!

I’ve seen the Glocell used in paneled ceilings for the lights and you can get it at Ace hardware.

When we got meco, she had urine burns on her toes and her feet were so yellow they were brown. We’ve had her for about two and a half months now and her yellow feet are finally starting to clear up. She’s litter trained and we just try to stay on top of keeping them clean, and that seems to have taken care of the problem.
