I havent posted for awhile, so let me introduce my bunnies again. Toki (male/3 yrs), Pumpkin (female/2 yrs), and Baby Elmo (male/7 months). All my buns are spayed/neutered and have been bonded for about 2 months now.

Starting 2-3 days ago, Toki and Elmo started fighting. If I leave them in the same cage, they will not stop fighting. It’s gettting very viscious now that I have cage full of fur.  I dont understand why they are fighting all of sudden.

Re-establishment of dominance? Some kind of hormonal unbalance?  I have Elmo seperated from rest of 2 buns for now. Do I need to re-bond them?

          Hello – I remember you!

I don’t know much about bonding buns, but I have definitely heard of this happening.

All I can say is that you did the right thing separating them for the time being.

Sorry I couldn’t help much – someone who knows more will hopefully see this soon!

Yes hormones are kicking in for the 7 month old little fellow.  I believe you said his name was Toki..  My mind has short attention span.

Is Toki spayed.   Even if he is as he is getting older they are working on reestablishing the social order

I would wait til Toki is 1 yr old and spayed if not already to start trying to rebond them.    Males can be hard to bond being of same gender.  But it can be done.

is Pumpkin okay with both of the boys? i wonder if there’s a way you’d be able to continue to allow her interaction with both boys separately, so as not to fracture those bonds. you may need to start over again with the boys with some neutral space bonding. i don’t have any experience with trios, but it does sound like it’s a hierarchy thing…

oh dear am I way off today.  Calling Elmo Toki and now I realize I mentioned a spayed Elmo instead of neutered one.  OH duh. Just  not my day I guess.

No worries for confusion with the names. So if it’s true that the hormones are kicking in for Elmo, how long would it last?
Pumpkin is okay with either of the boys. It seems like Elmo is the one that starts fight with Toki. Elmo keeps going face to face with Toki, which starts the fight. I feel so bad for Toki because all the hair that got plucked are Toki’s.

The adolescent stage til they are about one year or 1 1/2 years old.

HOrmones  don’t die down.  Unless neutered takes about 2 months after to go away and the female can still get pregnant by him for 2 months.

You probably knew that and yor girl is spayed already so.

Yes they won’t die down, you should probably seperate them until he can get neutered. Just sometimes when they fight they can cause major wounds that require vet care

They are all already spayed/neutered. That’s why I thought this was odd. I don’t understand why Elmo wont get along with Toki all of sudden.

Have you tried the neutral space bonding Beka mentioned with just the boys? Did you originally bond all three together or introduce one into and existing pair? Being only a trio bond of 2 months, perhaps the males bond is not fully cemented…
