It’s that age old question….is the rabbit really neutered if you can’t SEE him getting ‘the close shave’?

Oh, Fang’s neutered.  He went in this morning and came through without a hitch, and no one got bitten.  He’s home now, doing that pitiful thing they do………

They look up at you, with those sad, liquid eyes, all wet and teary  from the surgery, like those impossibly sad little cartoon animals, and you can just hear the mental message they’re sending you….”You took my HARBLES!!!  You’re SICK!  Why would you want them, why, WHY?”  Then the sniffle at you, and turn their backs, just lying there like a dead mackerel.  The only time they move is to nibble at something and shoot you an accusing look.

It’s like living wit Woody Allen.  I wish to God someone had had him neutered…..

But Smokey is happy to be free.  He ran around for half an hor, just binky-ing all over the place.

Then he crawled under the sofa, and no one has seen him since.  Oh well.

The nurses all laughed at me again, they always tell me to bring the rabbit’s favorite foods with me to encourage him to eat.  the first time they told me thsi (last year on the phone), I was dumbfounded.  “You want me to pack him a LUNCH?”  So I did, in a little miniature John Deere tractor lunchbox, in little tupperware containers.  I wrote Smokey’s name on the bottom of the lunchbox.  They were laughing themselves silly today when I got Fang, because it still said Smokey on the bottom of the lunchbox.  One nurse quipped, “Little brothers always get the hand-me-downs.”

So, now all I have to look forward to is reintroducing the two boys.  God help me.
