My female mini lop has this terrable biteing habbit. When she was a baby i didnt think much of it because all baby animals like to bite things, but shes over 7 months old now and when shes mad she nips. Im not sure if you guys have ever had your bunny bite you, but for a small furry critter they leave a nasty bruise. How do i discourage this behaviour?

I’ve never really had a biting issue like yours, but my bun has bit me before. I was told to squeal a high pitched sound like you are hurt, so it startles the bun and also lets her know that she hut you. rabbits squeal when they are in pain, apparently, and this seemed to do the trick for me!

also when she is getting into stuff ill squeek a little to startle her.

          *is crazy*

When does she bite you? Does she just run up and bite or does she bite when you are holding her?

female rabbits can be very territorial, moreso than males b/c of their nesting instinct. even after being spayed, they can sometimes stay a little territorial. this is usually evident by them nipping if you invade their space. it’s very important to know the situations in which you’re getting bit in order to advise you how best to discourage the behavior.

Thank you bunnyballet, that is something ill try next time, not so crazy.

Sarita, She only bites me when i have her picked up and she doesnt want to be, like when im trimming her nails or cheaking her ears, she will bite after i un-burrito her, or if shes really energetic and doesnt want to go back in her cage.

Beka27, As i said above shes nips/bites when she doesnt want to be picked up because she wants to run or doesnt want her nails trimmed. My new bun, Foofoo doesnt seem to nip when shes scared, but she may be to shy or to young ?I think shes a baby…

No shes not spayed, the vet here isnt qualifyed and i dont want to risk getting my females spayed since the operation is risky with a good vet. The vet here know his stuff about huge dogs but thats about it, he had troble telling me what gender my bunnys were when i first got them!

Hmm well as with most bad bunny behavior, a lot of it is probably hormone-related and spaying would help curb it.

If you want to let us know the area where you live, we can find some qualified vets around for you

I live in Yellowknife Nt Canada, Its one of those tiny isolated towns, the closest city is a 3 days drive and i dont have a vehicle. We have two vets both in the same building, the vet that everyone recomends and takes there dogs to wont take bunnys, the other is this guy who only knows how to deal with large animals.
