NO not a rabbit.   Phew.  Hubby was working on his truck yesterday and I walked up and saw a parakeet in a cage in there. A green adult male.  I opened the door and he made some real neat sounds.  He is mimicking what someone taught him.   Has nice whistles too.

This morning I hear him on the porch.    I am going to go see what hubby is going to do with him.  Someone gave him to hubby yesterday.

He likes birds.  I do to but in their cage.  I don’t like finding surprise poop on top of my frigie and tv and computer desk way up top and and and and

I like poop on the floor where you can see it.  I hope he doesn’t let it fly around the house.  EEEWWWw.   Just never know when to duck from a bird you know.      Incoming.    HEhee.

Awe I hear it whislting and chattering.  Let me go see.

K&K is that one of those things where the people working are wandering around w/ cameras? I took some pics like that a few years ago too….prolly paid big bucks, but NO idea where they are! We took them with birds too, but bought the ones w/ lizards!

don’t look now Lesley, but i think there’s a bird (or five) on you!

                          lmao!

i’ve never had birds. i’m not into animals that make a lot of noise, esp. ones that might keep me up t night. a friend of mine had birds and when i’d spend the night, they were always so loud. the one would fly around and poop on people/things.

if you do keep the bird, watch out for birdseed. if he flings it on the ground, the buns can get to it, and it could be dangerous. and even if it doesn’t cause health problems, seeds are very fattening.

I have parrots also along with all my other critters.  My dogs are little roving vacuums- I should have named them Hoover and Dyson, LOL.  They eat anything the parrots drop including empty peanut shells, and the more edible stuff like pasta, etc, along with any bird poo.  Fortunately they only have access to one parrot all the time- the rest are in the cats room blocked by a baby gate.  But my parrot Kirby loves to drop the stuff he does not want so that they will eat it- he even likes to drop it on their backs while they are eating what he just dropped.  Our dogs include the bird cage in their “rounds” so they check about every 10-15 minutes to see if anything new was dropped.  The cage door is closed at night- but I usually leave it open all day, and before my current foster dog Charlie we were able to leave the house with cage door open and he stays on the cage.

So with my dogs- the bunnies do not stand a chance of getting any birdie leftovers, although Cotton does like to lay under the cage sometimes.  Penny doesn’t go over by Kirby much at all.

I have a cockatiel and he can be VERY noisy. You will want to watch out that when the buns are out they don’t try to eat the seeds the bird drops (unless of course he’s on pellets, which I cannot get mine to eat but I wish he would) – my free roaming rabbit likes to eat the seeds off the floor by the birds cage – I have to be vigilant and clean around the bird cage often – I know Pepe the rabbit still manages to get a few seeds and such though…I don’t think it’s much though.

My bird also gets night fright sometimes so I have to leave a nightlight on for him.

That is a cool picture K&K! What gorgeous birds.

KatnipCrzy, my parents DO have a dog named Hoover! LOL!

Here’s a story for you…I just had to go to my parents’ in Arizona for 5 days. They have 3 dogs (lab mix, greyhound, and heeler mix).

My mother also used to have rats, but they died too soon (lifespan of 3 years if you’re lucky), so she switched to ferrets. Had one of those huge crazy ferret setups, and like 4 of them. But they kept getting horrible diseases and needing radiation therapy and other such stuff, so when the last one passed, she moved on…to cats. My parents have NEVER liked cats! I brought a stray kitten home once when I was a kid, and was told, “Put that thing back where you found it! NO CATS! EVER!” So she gets this satanic feline who sits in the middle of pathways just so she can stand on tippy-toes hissing and spitting when you try to walk past. All 3 big dogs live in fear. This cat is untouchable! So my mom’s answer…get ANOTHER cat! Maybe this one will be a lap-kitty, she figures! She gets a kitten, and it turns out, this cat ALSO doesn’t want to be pet, because she’s afraid of everything. She’s perfectly happy to hang out, and maybe even antagonize a dog or two, but if a human walks anywhere toward her, she’s OUT!

                                And they have a cockatiel.

So I go out there, and my mother’s a little flustered. “I guess I’ll just have to move the cats into the office.”

“Why? Move them from where? What do you mean ‘move them’? They’re cats…don’t they move themselves?”

“Well, the guest room is really the cat room.”

“You have a cat room? WHY?”

“Well, they have all their toys, and towers, and litter-boxes. And they need a bedroom at night so the dogs don’t harrass them…”

“But the dogs are in your bedroom at night…how would they get at the cats? Normal people just set up a litter box and let their cats be cats. I don’t understand why they need a whole ROOM…”

“Lots of people on my kitty forum have kitty rooms!”

And then I shut up, because when I get a 2-bedroom place, guess what the 2nd bedroom becomes?! (Of course, it’ll double as an office or something to! Really, I’m not as nutty as my mother!)

a cat room ahaha.   EH hung the cage on the porch .  HE covered it’s cage last nite.  today he put it in the bathroom in case it rains it looked cloudy out.

He said maybe Mary my neighbor who just lost her cat might want it.   NO I say she wants a dog.  So today I saw her outside we got to talking.  She likes the little bird.  Oh good  I am thinking maybe hubby will give it to her after all.

She would whistle and it would whistle back yesterday.  She likes him.  I didn’t tell her Fouad was thinking of giving it to her.

I hope he does.  I had birds for years.  finally I had enuf.  seeds feathers all over no one could sleep in they would make racket as soon as the sun came up.  I had 13 birds.  finches parakeets cockatiels.   Was very noisy.  I got tired of the mess and noise.  Now I enjoy them at other peoples homes.

Yeah somebody gave it to him he was thinking of Mary when he took it.  So hopefully it will work out.  Or it stays on the porch or in the bathtub on my bathrub chair.  Near the window.

Guess birdy is here to stay.  I named him Chirrup.   He is very talkative and whistles a lot.  I don’t recognize the tune though. Hubby said he wants to keep him.  Ok…

lol, actually i’ve been around cockatoos, my brother had one that used to mimick my niece’s cry. My brother would wake up frantically in the middle of the night to find my baby niece fast asleep and find the cockatoo in the living room making the crying noises!!! lol!!!

but parakeets aren’t too bad. I had one as a kid and I don’t remember it making much noise at all!

Yeah parakeets tend to make a lot of conversational noises, but they’re not too loud.
