Hi I was wondering your opinion about a new trick I should teach Fern.

She can beg, spin, and jump through a hoop (she actually jumps it is really cute).

The thing is for some reason I cannot think of another trick to teach her. I am just stumped.

Any Ideas what to teach her? She is surprisingly smart and I really enjoy training her. The satisfaction when she perfects a trick is overwhelming, I feel proud of myself and of her.

        Any ideas?

Play dead or fetch a ball?    I could never have the patiences to teach Archie tricks, he’s so stubborn anyways.  I think he’s finally getting the hang of “No”….well sometimes.  I’m trying to teach him “Come Out” when he gets into someplace he shouldn’t be.

An easy one to do is “Walk”… where you have them stand on hind legs (beg?) and then have them take a few steps while standing.

Also, I demand a video of her jumping through a hoop!

in the clicker training book they mention giving “five” or giving “ten”… putting one paw in your hand, or putting two paws in your hand…

I know someone who has taught their bunny to fetch toys. Her bunny can even distinguish between different toys! It’s crazy to watch “Go get your ball, no thats not the ball, thats the carrot…your ball…good boy! Now bring it to mommy” It’s so amazing to watch although I have no idea how you’d go about teaching something like that! She’s great at teaching tricks and I think it helps that her bunny is suspiciously clever.

I think what Rachel said.. walking..i use a banana slice and get them to take a few steps. I bet your bun would take right to walking for a treat.

Those are some good ideas, I might do the give me five or ten or I might do the walking one.
I will try to get a video of her jumping through her hoop but I keep forgetting to bring the camera upstairs.

So wait a second…. did you use the clicker book? I keep looking at it and wondering if I should get it and try to “teach/train” Ruffles to do something like “cuddle with mommy” or “be cute and flop for me”.

Verdict on clicker book… yes or no?

i have the clicker book and clicker… i’ve read it thru and it does have awesome ideas for how to actually go about the process. buns are different than dogs, so you can’t train them the same way. that being said, i’v enot been able to train my buns. i started training Meadow, but then very shortly after we adopted Max, so then i was busy bonding and clicking was forgotten about. it was summer vacation and i was going to try again, but we were super busy. once school started, i was going to try clicker training when my son was in kindergarten, but that’s in the middle of bunny naptime, so they were not active participants… i can’t train when my son is at home, b/c he always wants to “help” and ends up being way too distracting for me and the buns.

so it’s not the clicking which is an issue… many other people have been able to, it’s my own schedule and situation which makes it more difficult. SOMEDAY i do plan on training them tho!
