        hi guys

yesterday we expanded hershey’s living area by adding a pen around her nic cube cage, she seems to enjoy playing in her little room so we wanted her to be able to hang out when we’re not home.

anyway, before the pen we would let her out and she had a little plastic bag of hay that she loved to dig in…so now that she has access to that area i wanted to tidy things up and make life nice for her. i used the bottom of her old (small) carrier and turned it into a “hay box” that she can dig in etc but i came home from work and found a pile of poops in there. i saw her jump in it when i first placed it in the pen but i guess she’s now using it as her litter box.

she has a lovely giant litter box in her nic cage and was perfectly trained in using it, i’m just wondering if this new “box” will change her habits? i have noticed a few poops outside her cage but i figured she is marking the territory since she doesn’t poop in th rest of the house.

mine will poop in most litterbox shaped boxes. especially if you put hay in it, in my mind that is just asking for poop… LOL! all i’ve done to remedy this situation is remove the box completely and then they go right back to only using their real litterboxes. maybe just keep all the hay in the actual cage?

Cheeky will do that too, the poop I don’t mind as much as the peeing, because then you have to clean it out and disinfect every day vs. every couple of days. What I do is just pick out the poos and toss them in the litterbox, this 1.) gives me an accurate assesment of how many poops are produced that day 2.) for some reason Cheeky doesn’t pee in the box when i pick the poos out, he’ll only pee if it gets covered in poops

Or you could just do what beka said and remove it completely, unfortunately I’m so allergic to the hay that I can’t leave it all over the floor because it will fly all over the place.
