Thank you guys for responding to my last post about Elvira not eating.  I took her to the vet Saturday and they could not find anything wrong with her.  So yesterday she went to the vet to be put under so they can check her back teeth.

It wasn’t her GI like we thought, it was her teeth.

Apparently, she had an infected back tooth that was growing into her cheek.  (poor girl!)  They removed it and she should be back to normal in a few days.  Right now I can tell she is still in pain, and she is not really moving because she is still sedated from yesterday.  Hopefully when I get home today she will be a little more spunky.  We are still force-feeding her the Critical Care to make sure she gets fluids/food.

So thanks guys for your posts.  I always come here when I have a medical problem and everyone here is very knowledgeable!!!!

Poor Elvira – I’m so glad you took her in. Dental problems are so painful for rabbits.

Did they give you some pain medication to give her at home as well?

i asked, but they didnt send me home with any pain meds.  they just gave her an injection after the procedure.

i guess i will see how she is by tonight.  worse comes to worse, i can ask them to fax a script to a animal hospital that is closer so i can pick it up.

Did they just file the molar spur or did they actually remove it?

since it was infected, they removed it.

I’m so glad your vet was able to figure out what was wrong with her teeth, and good job on getting her to the vet so quickly. How is she doing with the critical care? You can add things like banana or other fruits to it to try to make it more palatable – my bunnies don’t particularly like the flavor of it.

Oh ouch! I am so surprised they didn’t send you home with pain meds. Well, it’s great that you can call in and get them though.

I am so glad to hear that your vet was able to figure out what was wrong with Elvira.  Hopefully with a little recuperation time she will be back to her usual self soon!

she is doing ok with the Critical Care.  At first, they gave us the plain flavor and it was NASTY.  so i went back and got a bag of the Apple Banana flavor which is much better.

she still isn’t eating on her own yet (had the surgery Monday), but hopefully by tomorrow~

I bet her mouth hurts since they pulled the tooth – it can take awhile for the pain to subside. I would call and see if you can get some pain medication.
