Hello, all!
Mike and I recently became roommates with a house rabbit. I had a mini-lop house rabbit a number of years ago; Mike’s had previous experience with “hutch rabbits” when he was a kid. Quantum (hence my screen name) was dropped off in our area by some fool or other. When you live in “predator central” (eagles, hawks, coyotes and foxes) you tend to notice overweight black and white spotted rabbits! She seemed to be making out all right, but the local wild rabbits would have nothing to do with her. We tried catching her twice this summer with no success. As fall turned to winter, we began feeding her and got to the point where she would allow petting while eating. We were due for a severe cold snap and snow, so we decided it was time she came in.
She’s been in a cage the last two days, eating, drinking and excreting well. She allows pets, but still goes into a combination of submissive posture and “bunny loaf” so I know she isn’t comfortable yet. When left on her own, she lies in a more relaxed manner and has been having a high old time rearranging the towel in her cage. Today, she and I will work on being picked up and put down and I’ll give her free range in our bunny-proofed kitchen.
Anyway, I look forward to doing a lot of catch-up reading on the forums here and I’ll post a picture in the “Challenge”. I’m not sure what exactly she is–she’s a mix for sure. Solid black upright ears, white body with black splotches and a moderate “neck roll”. She’s a pretty girl and I look forward to getting more of the house bunny-proofed so she can roam at will. I also don’t know how old she is. My guess is that she was an Easter present from this last spring that someone got tired of or had to move. She’s definitely used to being touched and will eat out of your hand, so she’s had some socialization.
OH boy you caught her. I am glad she survived out there long enuf to become ms housebun again.
The posture you describe as submissive. Is it her putting her head down? That is a posture requesting … pet me…. human slave…. and the loaf posture can also mean oh this petting feels good. I am going to loaf up so I dont’ fall over and enjoy this petting session.
She sounds happy. She has a loving family once again. She is safe inside and has yummy food and hay.
You might want to take her for a vet checkup with a rabbit savvy vet. Others on here who live in your area or county can help you find a good rabbit vet. They are usually listed as exotics. Try those vets. Is she spayed ? OH you wouldn’t know that only a vet could tell you ooops.
Send us pics we love pics. Glad you found us here too.
People on this site are very nice and can help you along with your questions. This is one site I dont’ see flaming etc. Good people here.
Hello and welcome! Glad to hear you got her before the predators did. Some people just don’t think before they do something.
Can’t wait for pictures!
Oh good for your for saving her!! Welcome to our little slice of online bunny heaven, but before you can be fully accepted by us, you must post a photo of Quantum so that we may all be jealous of her beauty and plan her bunnynapping….
Welcome!! How kind of you to go to the trouble to round her up and save her!! I’m going to head on over to the challenge to see the picture of her!
Any questions just ask-we love to help!
I didn’t get a good full-body shot yet for the Challenge, but here’s her face and a shot of her “racing stripe”.
She’s been out and about most of the day. Well behaved (she’s leaving all cords alone), but paper…alas! Paper and cardboard are her downfall. ![]()

Oh she’s soooo cute!! Look at that little bunny booty!! She’s adorable. As for the paper… I know the feeling. Felony could live on a diet of paper and papaya tablets….
Thank you all! And Hooty22, that’s quite a cutie you have as an avatar! Is that Felony? (Love the name, by the way!!) I’m trying to figure out what breed Quantum is and the closest thing I can find is a Checkered Giant (or some sort of mix thereof). Oof! She’s going to be a biggish bunny by the time she’s done growing. All the better to be the household Attack Rabbit, I say!
I tried picking her up today–uh-uh, no way, forget it. I have the scratches to prove it. Luckily, I was low to the ground so she couldn’t get hurt on takeoff. She did get to spend most of the day nosing about the living room. I just got her recaged using trickery (and a very small slice of apple).
She looks like she could be an english too… They aren’t quite as big as the checkered giants. And yes that is my baby boy Felony. He’s my little furball man and I love him sooooo much!!
oh! she’s gorgeous!!!!!!!
welcome here! i have a special spot in my heart for black and white spotted bunnies… (lol… i have two!)
Thank you, Beka! It just means we both have excellent taste (well, you have twice as much taste as I do).
And Hooty, how on earth due you manage not to boop that adorable nose eleventy-seven times a day??!? I’d have to keep my hands in my pockets at all times.
Oops! ETA: Could be, Hooty. The spots are splotchy, though, instead of being nice Dalmationesque dots. She’s likely a mix and that’s okay by me. I’d just like to be able to guesstimate how big she may wind up. She may be full-sized now, but somehow she just looks not completely grown up yet.
Well, even if she does get a big bigger, she’ll still be a beauty. She’s probably a mix, so maybe she won’t be fully Checkered Giant size. Felony is a cutie, and he’s actually pretty lovey so I’m lucky.
Quantum is a awesome name for a bunny. She’s beautiful & congrats on becoming a bunny-slave/owner. Welcome here!
What a cutie!
So glad you saved her from the outside world!
What a beautiful bun! Who would have dumped such a sweetheart!
Welcome to Binky Bunny~ Looking forward to seeing lots more pics!
I love the broken black coloring too. I love soo many colors I am confused hehee. Broken blacks are adorable though. You said she had been out running about for a couple of months. She may already be full grown.
I would guestimate she got locked out of her home at 4-6 months of age so she could be pretty much full grown. Her hair is too long to be a rex. I have no idea what she is except for adorable.
