So today, Honey’s xpen came in! I’m beyond excited– I’d been looking at them for a while but couldn’t find an affordable price. She needed a 3ft one.. because she is quite the expert jumper

I am going to slowly find little things to make her home more fun, right now she’s got a towel, a dogbed, and a cardboard box..

She’s right by my computer desk– which is great. Sometimes she’ll sit in the far corner and look up at me–

        I know, I know, she’s beautiful

Some other good news, I’ve contacted the local HRS chapter in my area, and next weekend I am going to “Bunny Adoption Day.” They have it once a month, where tons of foster bunnies and human society adoptable buns are all brought to one area! I do want to get another bun eventually, since I think Honey would like another little one running around.

They work with you to help bond rabbits– and of course she is coming so she can “bunny date” and mingle

They usually want to keep your bunny for a week to try and do atleast 50% of the bonding for you. I am a little leary of this, I know that they are professionals and that they love rabbits, but I don’t want her being upset with me for leaving her for that long! She’s never been away from me for long. I also am scared she’ll get hurt. No matter what, there is going to be a trial and error period with the possible mate, and i don’t want her getting hurt, or hurting another bun. I just want to be there. Maybe I’m overprotective *shrugs*. Mostly I’ll just miss her and worry like crazy! What do you guys think/ would you do it?

We’ll see what happens, I’m sure i’ll feel better when I talk to the HRS volunteers in person. I’m in no rush to get a bun, but if one does come about, and Honeygirl likes him/her, I’m all for it!

<3 Anywho, had to share the new xpen, I now feel like a superduper bunny mom for having such a large play area for her. She seems to be taking to it really well!

Great set-up!! And yes, she is beautiful!! The HRS events sounds great! I really recommend that as the way to go to find the best match. I took my first bunny, Forrest, (he passed away seven years ago) to go bunny dating at HRS. It was the easiest bonding I’ve ever been through. They bonded in three days. I chose my favorite bunnies first, and they didn’t like Forrest, but then Rucy I think was the fourth or fifth bunny, and it was very positive.

I can tell you that there would be a few people here, who had very challenging bonding sessions that would LOVE to have the HRS take then for a week.
I know that it makes you worry, but part of bonding is being able to be in a neutral territory. I also know that when I took Forrest to bond, they knew way more than I did about body language back then, and they picked up on the subtle “danger” signs before I did. The were able to prevent dangerous lunges and aggression. So I actually think that their offer to help bond is EXCELLENT!

Of course, there can still be problems when you bring both bunnies home to your bunny’s territory, but the experts there at HRS may be able to guide you with the best way to deal with them at home.

I would also suggest that if you are going to bring a new bunny home, I would set up the xpen now in a temporary place, so that when you do pen them together eventually, the permanent place will seem new to even your bunny, which will make her less likely to become territorial over it.

oh that’s great news! it’s nice to have something to look forward to, esp. after losing lil Kit. Honey looks very happy in her new xpen! BinkyBunny already touched on the bonding thing, but i’ll just add that when they do bond, you will probably want to make the xpen into a sqaure so they have a slightly larger area.
