She met my vet for the first time today. Sammykins got her nails trimmed. She is fine.

She got a complete exam and left a fresh poo for testing. Also, I agreed to a blood test for E. Cun. (however that’s spelled.) My vet said she’s seen a rise in cases lately, and since it can be gotten from the parents or exposure to other rabbits, she asked to take the test now to assess her risk of ear infection or head tilt later on. I agreed. It was expensive, but I’d rather be thorough now than get hit with an emergency down the road.

She was a very good girl – and she IS a girl. I will make an appointment to have her spayed in late January. My vet wants to do it before she’s 7 months, but not before 5 months. She said it doesn’t give her time to layer on too much fat, so it’s easier to perform the surgery. Her ears and teeth are good too.

Her “first position” legs in the back are not splayed and nothing to worry about now, but we can watch it in case she develops any problems later. So far her movements are fine and unaffected. She might not be jumping because she just doesn’t want to. No leg problems keeping her from doing it.

And what a well behaved bunny! She sat nicely, accepted head pets and kisses from my vet’s assistant. Then I heard them in the other room when they drew her blood exclaiming that they’d never had a bunny take a syringe so easily before. They were whooping! She just sat there calmly and it was over really fast.

I got hight marks for my food and litter choices. (With all of your help, of course.) I bought her a new toy and blankie this afternoon. Probably should post a new thread, but I want to ask about her lack of interest in most new things. I gave her a little willow ring I’d been saving – she attacked it voraceously. But has almost ignored her tunnel, hay ball and timothy hidey thing.

She’s in a cage now and runs around the apt. supervised. Do you guys give your stuffed animals to them inside the cage or is it an out-of-cage toy? I just bought a special natural toy that is made for pets and organic cotton with safe or no dye. She pulled on it, then dropped it.

Well, it’s been a long day. My day off.  Here’s a pix from last week.

Added in Edit: She weighed just under 3 lbs. My vet doesn’t think she’ll get to be much more than 5. Whew.

Ha, you are lucky your bunny was good during the whole vet trip. When Fern went to the vet she was good when the vet was examining her, but the vet took a long time when they were trying to draw blood, and someone had to come back to tell us that everything was OK, she was just being uncooperative. Haha! Fern! and when she was done with it she gave me the bunny butt for a while.

Yea I just give Fern a stuffed toy outside the cage, she does not really care about it and pays not much attention to it.

Yea I know what you mean about your bunny just pays no mind to some toys, Fern does that too. She only really likes cardboard boxes and things she can shred or dig. I guess Fern is a digger. She received the phone book very well, Except she had black feet after a couple of days playing with it. Yea, Fern seems to like the texture of some things to chew, but not others. It makes me sad if I make/buy a cool toy and Fern totally ignores it. She does love pine cones! I was happy about that, you just get them from the yard, wash them cook them and voila, a cheap and cool toy. I guess you have to find what toys she likes and stick with those.

I can’t wait to see if Fern likes the willow stuff from Binky Bunny, Christmas is coming and she will be a lucky girl! I have the stuff I bought saved for her for Christmas.

yay Sammy! gosh she’s cute… she looks kinda “english-spotty” in that pic…

mine love the willow stuff (LOVE IT!) unpeeled gets the highest marks. did you say in another thread that the tunnel is peeled willow (the whiter willow)? that might be partly why, it has a different texture or taste. i got the unpeeled tent here and it sat virtually unchewed for a couple months. they slept under it all the time but no chewing. then all of a sudden i think they realized it’s the same stuff that their toys are made of and now it’s mere twigs… i need a new one in january… with some buns, i think it takes them time to accept a toy. plus she is young… so maybe she’ll get into the habit soon enough… BB has the willow stars and candy canes… at 2 bucks a pop, i can never get enough of those… those little willow rings are awesome too!

Your vet sounds great! So nice that it wasn’t all too stressful for Sammy. She’s a champ! She’s reminding me of Jersey quite a bit. She was also 3 pounds for sometime and eventual matured to the 5 lb mark. She also never really took to toys. She preferred to nominate her own items to keep her occupied. Leather, bag straps, books etc. Sammy may use the toys more when enclosed for longish periods but if she’s mostly out, theres too much to explore then sit in a spot and play with toys. At least that’s the way it is for Jersey.

Awww she sounds so sweet-behaving so nicely at the vets And your vet sounds really great too! Chuck gets his stuffed animals all the time and he doesn’t chew them; You could try giving her a stuffed animal in the cage and if she doesn’t chew it up too much then she can keep it in there.
