what kind of liter is the best to use?  I am using ground up natural corn cobs and the bunnies are doing real well their play yard is always clean and they use the liter box and all I did was put the liter in the box and put some bedding the bunnies soiled in it and they caught right on.  the corn does not absorb the urine and when I clean it is all real wet underneath the ground corn cobs.  My secret is not using the soft fluffy bedding because if I do they use that instead of the liter box so they have an igloo and grass mats and that seems to work well.  I would love to know if there is an absorbent liter that is ok to use.  Next Tuesday is neutering day, I hope they do ok and keep up there good habits.  I will be gland when it is over.

corn cob is actually not a safe litter to use. it can cause an impaction if it is eaten by the buns.

some safe litters are recycled paper litter (yesterday’s news, carefresh). you can use wood pellet litters (wood stove pellets or even horse bedding) that will be your cheapest option, you can usually get a 40 lb bag for less than 7 or 8 bucks.

for more on safe and unsafe litters: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/litter.html

litters are mentioned in section 8.4

that’s great! you might want to stock up a bit before summer as most areas will stop carrying them in the warmer months… figure out how much you use a month and then purchase enough to carry you thru to next fall…
