Found this when I looked up Sugar Gliders as pets

“The scientific name for Sugar Gliders is Petaurus Breviceps, which is a species of small and tree dwelling marsupial. They are mainly native to countries, including Australia, Indonesia, New Guinea, and Tasmania.”

I’m still laughing. I FELL off my chair laughing!

Hey did you know you could have sugar gliders as pets?

Yes!! They are traded on Kijiji alot!! Apparently they are hard to keep alive yet people still insist on having them!! They sure do look cute though!

My friends had one, they were wildlife carers and they were raising it cause it’s Mummy had died. It was pretty cute but I think of them as wild animals rather than pets.

!  Let see if anyone else picks up on it here!  I actually just glanced over it until I read about you laughing.  Thought “ok, missed something…”  Then was easy to see.  Thread title should have alerted me.   He he he!  Was the site Australian?  Probably was!

I’m betting theres a lot of red tape to get thru before you can keep one.  You’d have to have a licence right?  Is their name seriously “Petaurus”?  Pet Dinosaur!  Their faces are so sweet!

It was a USA site actually, aparently they’re common in North America as pets. I had no idea until my fried was complaining that her bf wouldn’t let her get a sugar glider. All that came to mind was someone out in the forest at night with a butterfly net trying to catch one lol.

I think the point is that Tasmania isn’t a country. ROFL thats hilarious.

he he! Sometimes I think mainland Australians claim the actual land of Tassie as it’s own, but not so much the people……..you know, butt of all jokes and all that. Probably just jealousy!

I think so. We can’t stand the fact that Tassie is so beautiful so we just pick on Tasmanians. Someone just had a map on the wall and was like “New Guinea…umm, Australia…and…um…Tasmania…”

New Guimea isn’t a country either It’s an island split into the country of Papua New Guinea with the other half as part of Indonesia (two provinces of Papua and West Papua).

Anyway, geography isn’t everyone’s strong point but I just figured that if your writing a website, you should at least check you facts LOL.Spelling isn’t my strong point so if I was writing a website, I’d get it spellchecked

I’ve known a few people with sugar gliders as pets. They’re pretty common in most US states.

Weird pet laws here in California make it illegal to own them without a special permit (and ferrets and hedgehogs too… which I love. Wah.) Sugar gliders are neat, but the ones i knew of weren’t very nice!

haha! Hold back Cassi, hold back…..
Canberra is unusual as it’s a designed city. Oz has 6 states and 2 territories, one of those being Australian Capital Territory (ACT) where Canberra is. So it was designed as a Capital city. Guess it didn’t develop “organically” like other cities do – over time. So I’d say it was “unique”.

I love About.com. For all things Sugar Glider, click the above link. BTW, my vet doesn’t treat dogs or cats, but she does Sugar Gliders.
