From Mimzy. Loud enough I could hear them three feet away. I thought it was me at first. 0_o

So I dragged him out of his pen (he hates handling) which is now on the top of Pip’s as I thought a change of scenery would do him good with how low he’s been lately. I gave him two .6 ml of generic mylicon and waited for something to happen. Within about an hour, he’d had enough petting and was exploring the bed. I just got the towel thrown over Fiver’s pen in time to keep them from fighting.

When I put him back in his pen, it took about 30 minutes for him to start munching away on hay and drinking. My gosh, he drank for twenty mintues at least. He’d been in the xpen with Pip earlier in the day and hadn’t drunk much/eaten any of the orchard grass I put in with him. He still isn’t eating very much and I found pearl stirngs and smallish poops in his box last night…there were more today and they are almost normal sized, but, not quite to my liking yet.

Should I withdraw all green foods and just give him hay and cut down his pellets? Since his last tummy upset (the one where he thumped to let me know) I’ve been trying to be so good with what he eats. Maybe he’s not getting enough exercise? Maybe his stomach was just so empty from the day? Or could he have eaten something he wasn’t supposed to that I didn’t see? (Cats eat their food right overhead on the counter and I try to keep kibbles from dropping in the xpen, but, you never know.) He has finished shedding, so where is the hair coming from that was in his poop?

What else would cause tummy rumbles in a bunny? He didn’t appear to be in pain, it was just so loud that I figured I should dose him with the mylicon rather than wait till he was uncomfortable. Did I do the right thing?

I feel like such a crappy bunny mom. I can’t seem to do anything right lately. >.<

As far as I know, Mylicon is not even absorbed by the body, it just passes through, so giving it to him is not dangerous. DJ has had several bouts of similar sounding distress, but he also does the weird flop/sit thing that always tells me his belly hurts;. As he is feeling better, he also drinks a lot, then eventually eats. I have no idea what causes this in DJ, but I suspect that a combination of fur and sometimes a veggie that does not agree with him. I usually stick with the tried and true veggies with him for a few days after this happens (romaine and italian parsley). Obviously, hay is great if he is willing to eat it. DJ usually responds positively to oat hay, so I give him a little of that to keep him eating.

Thanks osprey! I’ll bet that’s it, we had a change of veggies in the last few days (red leaf lettuce, he hasn’t had that in awhile) and he left most of it in his dish yesterday. *nods*
Okay, we’ll go back to the tried and true. Thank you so much! ^_^

He’s doing good, thank you. Although I’d sure like to see him eat more hay. But he’s always been stingy about that part of his diet. I suppose I could eliminate everything but hay for him, but I’d be afraid he’d stop eating altogether for long enough to complicate things.
I even tried putting some wheat in with him last night as Osprey suggested, but he used it for bedding and was shoving it under his litter box this morning. Soo….. (sometimes being a bunny momma is a nightmare)

I went ahead and set his pen down on the lower level again for him last night and placed Pip back up on top. He took a look around like, “Wait a minute…when did the ceiling come back on top of my pen?” Then you could almost see him shrug his little bunny shoulders and curl right up in his favorite sleeping spot like nothing was different. Crazy rabbit with uncanny zen.

Pip, however, was not pleased. We were subject to MAJOR bunny disapproval last night. And I don’t think the weather has cleared yet today.

*sigh* Perhaps Lincoln’s speech could be altered to say; “You can’t please all of the bunnehs all of the time.”
