After the holiday craziness is over I want to start working on a web page for rabbit advocates. Just wondering what your guy’s opinions are on what I should focus on first.

What do you feel is the biggest problem needing attention with regards to the welfare of rabbits? Meat rabbits, animal testing, fur industry, over breeding, etc.

Hmm, I don’t know much about the meat/fur/testing issues, but I’d personally like to see pet stores stop selling rabbits. Especially selling them for like, $5. There are plenty of rabbits out there looking for good homes without impulse shoppers driving up demand for them then deciding it’s too much work, not cuddly enough, or cheaper to get a new rabbit than to pay to take the existing one to the vet. You all know the argument already, so I’ll leave it at that. There’s my 2 cents!

There are a lot of problems with the world of rabbits! I vote for BunnyMuffins suggestion as well, poor rabbits in terrible conditions selling for $5. When I see rabbits in pet stores my blood just boils!

Education about rabbit ownership ie responsible ownership. Impact on rabbit after being rehomed or dumped after impulse buy. Not biggest issue perhaps but certainly one of them I think.

I think this is an “Australia only issue” but the ban on the myxo vaccination is just wrong. The argument for the ban is ridiculous and the consequences are very serious. I work at a vet clinic and at the moment we have two bunnies in who are much loved family pets but unfortunately they have myxo. With a 5% recovery rate…there’s no much hope and its frustrating because it could’ve been prevented with a simple vaccination.

                rant over.

Actually Danmers, that’s another issue that could be addressed; culling methods!

i don’t know A LOT about the meat/fur/testing thing. i guess for me, a little bit of ignorance is bliss. i know that’s naive… but i don’t know. i read the stories rabbits tell book that gives a general overview of all of that… and it’s so sad…

i know more about rabbits as pets of course. one of my big issues is people’s reluctance to spay/neuter. the way i see it, you can do everything right, but if you don’t spay/neuter… well. i’m not trying to get into a thing on board. so i’ll just leave it at that.

                      #1 animal testing.

#2 rabbits as pets and people not keeping them once they reach adolescents and not spaying/neutering them and improper care of rabbits as pets lack of good rabbit care knowledge

                      #3 fur

                      in that order.

Thanks for the imput. So the biggest issue seems to be regarding domestic rabbits.

^^^i think at least among THIS group of people. i feel they’re all important issues, i really don’t know much about the other issues facing rabbits.

Pet stores, education, finding a good vet

But most of all spaying and neutering-people need to know it’s not an option and they need to know this before they get a rabbit!!

Mxyi and VHD vaccinations being outlawed in Australi and unavailable everywhere but the UK-it needs to be available and legal for everyone!
