I was just ordering some hay and ran across this thermometer:

        http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm

It claims that it can be used accurately in a rabbit ear, and I’m wondering you bunny-pros have any opinions on whether it would actually be accurate?  The whole rectal thermometer thing kinda freaks me out.

Would it be useful if I got it and used it weekly to get a baseline – would that be enough to detect a significant change in case of illness, even if it isn’t accurate in an absolute sense?

It’s kinda pricey, so I won’t get it any time soon, but just didn’t know if I should bother adding it to my wish list or not.

I will be getting a food syringe this order though – they’re cheap!

i have no idea how accurate that would be. maybe katnip has experience with those?

i think you might be better off having your vet show you how to do a rectal when you go in next time and investing in a good 5 dollar drug store thermometer… just my thought…

Well it looks pretty cool – call your vet’s office and see if they have experience with this.

Yeh they usually do anal but definitely call the vet and see what they say-that’d be very handy to have at home for us squeemish people!
