Lily is ok with going in her litterbox. She at least always pees in it, but she tends to poop around it too. I don’ t know how to keep her going in it. I try to keep cleaning up as soon as I can, but I feel like I just can’t keep up with it. Lol. Any suggestions? She also only goes in my room. I give her axcess to the hall sometimes and she doesn’t go there. Is this something that will be sorted out when she’s spayed? Help….

My ND does that as well, and he’s neutered!!! His litterbox habits are strange. He will always pee in the box but poops are up for grabs. The majority of them end up in the box but he will leave strays all over. I’ve also noticed that the ones he’ll leave will be picked over and they’re all crumbly. I don’t know if that means he steps on them or if he tries eating them, but whatever the case it always means I have to vaccum everyday!

My nethie Henry goes through phases. When we first got him at 7weeks he was brilliant. Picked up the litter box training instantly. As he approached 4months he started pooping everywhere… all over the couch, in our laps etc. As soon as he was neutered he was brilliant again. Not one poop outside his litter box but since we got Poppy a fortnight ago his litter box habits have gone hay wire again and he is marking like crazy. So is she only she is peeing everywhere too so things havent been too pleasant in our house lately. We are finding poops mashed into the carpet every day and i cant get rid of the smell. I have been on my hands and knees with vinegar and water every day and there is obviously a place i am missing …Eeek Why cant Poppy be like Henry? She seems much more stinky!!!!

Hm… I wonder if it’s a dwarf thing then. It seems like she doesn’t even stop. It’s like they just shoot out and she can’t tell. haha.

It’s a territorial thing too, they sort of leave poops around the litter box; After spay will likely help this but most rabbits do leave poops around the box; Yucky looking but if they get the pee in the box everytime, most of us are happy with that!

pee in the box is awesome! i agree, some buns will always mark their territory with poop, even post-spay/neuter. in the case of Henry, this is no doubt directly related to the fact that there is an unaltered female in his presence.

Sweetbluebun and Luna, this can sometimes be remedied by reducing their amount of space. if you’re noticing a strong urine smell, i’d suggest you clean the litterboxes very well (inside, outside, upside down) and check the floor all around it. sometimes perfectly littertrained buns will lift their bottoms too high and pee over the edge.

it’s not uncommon for perfectly trained buns to require refresher courses. my buns included…

I wanted to add on… I’ve been having the poo problem with my bun forever and thought I’d add my questions to this thread. I’m pretty sure my bun is doing it just to mark her territory, because it’s not often, not every time she’s out, and normally one poo here or there. But, I have three roommates in a little apartment, and none of us (myself included) appreciate her poo. It’s embarrassing for me because she’s my responsibility and I thought she was litter trained so that’s what I told them. For the most part she’s good about it… but how do I stop the little poos here and there? I’ve gotten rid of them as fast as I can… but I don’t want them to happen at all. :/

Cotton had been marking with his poos.  I saw him on the rug and I picked up his poos i showed them to him letting him see and smell them in my hand.  Then I said they go in here boo.  Throwing them in his litterbox.  After a day or so of doing this he stopped.  I think perhaps I mixed up the rugs and the one he started pooing on had been HB’s and not Cotton and Ruby’s rug. ooops. He never pooed that much on their rugs b4. So that had to be it.

Spneutering all buns will help a lot.

I find if I show and talk to Cotton about it he will get it.  Now watch cause I said that he will start up again.

Having rearrange the living room 3x since last nite they might leave poo about.  They did last nite but none today I noticed.  Phew.

they’re going to happen. i mean, there’s really no two ways around it. i guess a bun is only ever 98% littertrained… mine don’t leave poos that i’m aware of, but they do kick them out of the box regularly… do you know that these poos are being deliberately “placed” there, or is it possible they’re just getting kicked around. last week i was walking out of my room and there was one single, solitary poo in my bedroom doorway. the bunnies litterboxes are about 12 feet away from my door. those suckers can FLY! i think so little of finding a stray poo that it doesn’t even register with me that it’s there, if that makes sense. i can just shrug my shoulders, pick it up, and throw it away. if i’m in the middle of something, i’ve been known to step over it and go about my day…

i understand it’s tough with non-bunny slaves in the house… but can you explain to them that it happens and that this does not mean she is not littertrained? in my mind, “littertrained rabbit” means all the pee in the box and most of the poop.

I know this will be of absolutely NO help to you, but I couldn’t help thinking about the member who said her dog thought her bunny was a Pez dispenser and followed the bun around eating the poops as fast as they were laid…..hahhhha. I remember she even said the dog would give the bun a nudge with her nose when she thought she wasn’t producing enough!

That’s too funny. Silly dog. She doesn’t just fling them out of the litter box. She deliberatly puts them there. It’s not just a few here and there either. It’s big piles. I leave her out at night sometimes because she normall will just curl up under the chair and go to sleep, but when I wake up in the morning there are piles of poo everywhere. Like I said, it’s only in my room though. AND! If I bring her upstairs, she won’t go until she is back down in my room. I even bring the litter box up there and she won’t use it. So, I know she’s capable of holding it. Lol.

Ah, this is mysterious! I have this issue with Jersey too. Piles of poo next to the litter box. No where else in the house, just there. We have to get into their minds! lol

OMG, BunnyBuns, I have the same problem with Fang! He eats, he poos;he drinks ,he poos;he grooms, he poos; he takes three steps, he poos! My daughter asked if we could get one of those rabbit-sized hamster balls for him to run in, and I looked at her in horror! I imagined him suffocating himself inside a plastic ball with his own droppings, like a torture from one of those horror movies! It would only take him 2, 2 1/2 hours tops to fill such a thing……
