I was building condos last night for our new rabbits coming tomorrow; Luckily Nanci has lots of cubes so I just had to buy zipties and coroplast and snaps; But I was building for hours (man who knew they could be so time consuming? LOL) and I used almost 500 zipties and my fingers are RAW  Am I a huge wuss or did you guys find building your condos a bit physically demanding?

i hate ziptie burn. it is the worst thing EVER.

okay maybe i am a wuss too… lol.

but seriously, this is a huge reason why i do xpens… i still have to use zipties on a regular basis for other various bunny-proofing ventures, but i “couldnot/wouldnot” build a condo…

Partway through making ours I started using pliers to tighten the zipties.

I use pliers now too S&A, except the pliers give me blisters so I alternated between pliers & fingers and ended up with both. I’m not building another NIC condo! I don’t even want to re-arrange it anymore cause I’m so wussy and scared of the zipties.

the ends of zipties suck too tho… when Meadow had her cage and NIC grid pen in the living room (pre-Max), i would always walk by and brush against it by accident and end up with long scratches all over my arms and hands. i have some scars from doing that still visable months later…

If you are going to be building a lot of these in the future, you should invest in a pair of these endcutters:

They will snip the tie right off at the base so there is almost no chance of scratches.  If you’re building your own and are only planning on doing it once, a pair of fingernail cutters work just as well.  Just that your hand will cramp even worse if you plan on doing it a lot.

I’m going to one-up you markusdark!  All bunny owners ought to have one of these:

Zip Tie Gun (the link doesn’t take you directly to the picture of the tool – but if you click the image in the top left corner it will enlarge it for you).

This is my absolute favourite tool!  You just get the zip tie started, then put the long end in the gun, pull the trigger, and it tightens it up good – then give it a twist, and it clips it off nice and close!  So fabulous.

Now, this is one of those items that came included with the boyfriend, so I have no clue where he acquired the heavenly device.  My guess would be hardware stores wherever you normally acquire zip ties, but I’ll ask him where he got his next time I talk to him (he’s a pilot, so he’s currently out of town working).

So needless to say, I’ve never experienced the joys of zip tie burn – but I can imagine it’s not very much fun!

Ha Ha Ha! So I haven’t done the condo thing but I gotta laugh. Only bunny owners could know about the dreaded Zip-tie Burn!

And a Zip-tie Gun?? Seriously, it’d be like the Holy Grail to Bun Owners around the world. Will there be a news report on the strange surge in sales of an obscure devce, the zip-tie gun?  Consumer Experts are baffled at this sudden interest this Christmas………

There’s a whole market out there for these sorts of things, zip-tie guns, end cutters, condo building tool belt…….mmm, new busines idea!

I’ve never gotten zip tie burn, maybe I just have tough skin on my fingers?  The part that kills me is the taking them off…we use hedge trimmers and wire cutters to do that but it’s still a pain in the butt.

I’d use a ciggy lighter for that part – lol
