So while doing my Coco errands tonight ( had to go to vets to pick up more Oxbow since I scraped dust this morning) I picked up the Oxbow Timothy Hay Cakes.

I was thinking that – in adddition to the regular unlimited hay she gets – that these might be good for an extra bump of hay during this massive fur fest that is going on in my bedroom. Keep the old GI tract moving along?

        What do you all think?

I think that’s a great move! Hay cakes will prob provide renewed interest in hay which would be a very good thing right now.

I’m fairly sure anything made by oxbow is high quality and high fibre which is purrrfect for shedding

the oxbow tim hay cubes are awesome for a treat. they don’t provide much in the way of actual fiber since they don’t have the long strands that regular hay does. if you give them, esp. during a big shed, i’d watch closely that they don’t inhibit any” real hay” eating.

I agree with Beka. The compressed hay cubes or cakes are processed and the fiber strands just aren’t as effective on scrubbing out the GI tract (someone referred to it as a car-wash LOL – I *think* it was K&K?) and elminating fur, toxins and other stuff. They make a neat treat, and I give my two a coveted alfalfa cube once in a while as a treat but am calorie-concious of them since they are older and I don’t want them to stop eating their regular timothy hay.

I left one in her Maze – as a “discovery” – but she has been happy to keep munching on the Brome ( which she thinks is sent from heaven) and Botanical. Poops are looking normal and frequent, so I am pleased that we are keeping the train a-movin’.

I’ve also increased some of her greens for extra moisture, as I figured that can’t hurt.

She seems about half way through her whole coat. The “toupee” is spreading out from the center of her back – but she is WAY touchier about being groomed on her bum/sides and I have to seriously look as if I am not trying to pluck her at all…

I’ve also found is is most tolerant of plucking in the morning. She avoided me for nearly a whole day when I got the slicker brush out the other day.
