        Hi

I have only just found this forum today and its great! I’ve learnt so much. I have only had my rabbit poppy for just over a week and I can’t believe what amazing pets rabbits are!

Im concerned about her happiness though as in the pet shop she had a huge cage with other rabbits, we let her have the run of the whole house and keep her hutch door open all the time so she can come and go as she pleases, im trying to leave her to her own thing as ive been advised to let her do as she pleases and not force her to come to us.

She seem happy and goes crazy every evening bombing it around everywhere and does crazy twisty jumps really high in the air, she does this funny thing where she snaps her back legs together then charges off, i hope she is happy?

The thing is she spends a lot of time lying under the kitchen table i hope she isnt scared?

any advice to make her happy would be great

        xxx

welcome here! she sounds very happy! the twisty jumps are called binkies and they are the pinnacle of rabbit joy. her chillin’ under the table is probably b/c she likes the quiet, dark “den-like” quality of the location. a great site on rabbit behavior is the language of lagomorphs site… http://language.rabbitspeak.com/

how is she doing with her littertraining? sometimes giving too much freedom all at once can hurt their litterbox skills, so be aware of that. also, some buns will have bad litterbox habits until they are older and spay/neutered. from what you say tho, it sounds like she’s doing well and you’re both happy! they are amazing pets…

            Hi

The litter training is more miss than hit at the mo lol! when we first got her she kept going in one corner so the next day we bought a rabbit litter tray and now she goes in her hutch, so i dont know if im right but i moved her droppings to the litter but she just ignores it! its early days yet and she isnt making any mess so im happy if she is. Sounds crazy but i dont think she likes going to the toilet where we can see her as she only goes in private lol she is very ladylike!

you can put her hay in the litterbox, that should encourage her to do her business there. what we usually recommend is that you limit their area until they are using the box regularly, then you can expand. otherwise it will be much harder to reinforce those good litter habits later on…

thanks for the links, I will have a good read now!

She sneezes a lot as well is this normal? she doesnt have any wet coming out just crazy sneezing attacks where she does 4 or 5 in a row? I think it may be her hay though

yes, it’s probably dust from the hay. just like we can get an irritant in our nose, they can can too and the body’s response is to sneeze to get it out. as long as you don’t see discharge, from the nose or eyes, i would not be too concerned about it. that being said, it is a good idea to have a new bunny examined by an experienced rabbit vet (and then on an annual basis just like you would for a cat or dog.) unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for petstore bunnies to be sick due to the the less than ideal conditions in which they are kept sometimes.

                      Welcome here!

Be mindful for discharge if she’s sneezing but it could be the hay. Do you have any air freshners or anything like that? Rabbits are pretty sensitive to those things too.

She sounds very very happy-I think your doing a great job! We’d love to see some pics if you could?

My Winston is a sneezer – like 10 times in a row – I’m sure t has something to do with how he loves to bury his head in the hay basket. He also gets hiccups. It is really funny to see. My vet sez he is fine though.

The bunny Info section of this site will keep you busy reading or a while. You can also check out the House Rabbit Society at rabbit.org – tons of great information there.

Poppy sounds like she is settling in! Cute name.

my guess is your bunny lays under the table cuz its ”her” spot…she is comfy there.

                          welcome!!!!
