On the 5th of October 2008, we lost our beloved rabbit Leah suddenly to a mystery illness. We just wanted to put down a few words about Leah, who spent a very happy life with us for more than 3 years, of which we enjoyed every minute.
We got Leah in December 2005 as a companion for our original house rabbit Clarissa, (who was left in a box outside my wife’s work and just ended up staying with us). We realised quickly that Leah was very different in personality to Clarissa – very inquisitive and mischievous, compared to Clarissa’s more cautious approach to life, but also slightly skittish, relying on her ‘big sister’ Clarissa to protect her in stressful situations such as trips to the vet etc. They complemented each other so well and formed an immediate lasting bond. Leah was Fiver to Clarissa’s Bigwig.
Leah was such an affectionate happy little rabbit, always binkying around the room faster than the eye could see and jumping up on the sofa to say hello. She used to flop down so hard on the floor that she sometimes did a 360 roll which always made us laugh. She also had some peculiar eating habits (she once ate a live slater – I thought rabbits were vegetarian?) and loved to try and steal a sip of wine if we were enjoying a glass. Or beer. In fact she would pretty much try and eat or drink anything we were having, although her favourite snack was our brand new Italian leather sofa, in which she managed to make a rabbit-sized hole over the course of 3 years. Both Leah and Clarissa showed us what wonderful companions bunnies could be, and provided us with comfort and support when times were hard.
But now she’s gone, crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge, and it has been a very hard few weeks for us. We have been very much helped by the recent arrival of Hazel, Clarissa’s new friend who is settling in great and is similar in personality to Leah, but little Princess Leah will forever be in our hearts. I’ve put in a few photos of her below – most of the pics we have are of her and Clarissa together, which is testament to how close they really were. Leah is the black one.
Binky free, Leah. Sadly missed.
Tim, Ali, Ethan and Clarissa.
