What should you feed a sick bunny with loose stool?  I have my bun emergence kit with stuff for stasis and more, but not poopy butt.  If for one reason or another I cant get to the vet then.  Like its insanely late, a holiday or weekend, vet on vacation, vet left etc.  Are there certain foods to help until they can go to the vet.  Just for future reference. Thanks!!

What about oats? rolled not instant. Or how about flavoring water a little with apple juice to give more fluids?

Yup oats are something often given for loose stool. Usually you’d want some Critical Care on hand and some pedialyte or juice to flavour water with. Syringes for force feed. Semethicone is good for gas pain. Lots of causes for poopy bum so best is to offer supportive nutirition, fluids, keep them dry then get them to the vet. Semeithicone for gas as they may get pain from the digestive upset.

Cornstarch for cleaning the bum up without a stressful bath.

Good stuff making sure everything is on hand, helps you keep your head when something is wrong!

Hi Bunnyliz, boy lots of questions today on diarrhea. I just posted these links for further information:

              http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/medical.html#digestive

              http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/poop.html

Yes rolled oats can be used and quick can too but rolled is much preferred.  Use about a tablespoon. Of course really examine the diet, amount of sugar intake and any over-ripe banana that might have been given to your fuzzball. Be sure your rabbit is also drinking plenty of fluids, Pedialyte is good to keep on hand.

you couold probably go to a hardware store and get a simple plastic toolbox or a tackle box for pretty cheap… even just a sterilite plastic storage box would work if you wanted very cheap and very simple.

A toolbox sounds cool! That will look neat and could be easily be picked out from all the other boxes and junk in my closet

Personally I use a portable file box. That way I have a few hanging file folders in it – my rabbit’s medical info. I have a separate recipe box with “what to do when…” on recipe cards. My vets phone # and emergency numbers is also taped to the top of my emergency kit.

I know that canned pumpkin (NOT pumpin pie filling), but straight canned pumpkin with no spices can be used to feed to bunnies for fiber content and they are supposed to like it.  I have not tried to offer my bunnies any yet.

Ive got all the ‘what to do when..” stuff, but cutting them out and putting them on cards is a good idea, ill have to do that too.
Katnipcrzy- I have the baby food, a squash and a carrot, would that be the same as pure pumpkin for poopy butt? Or is that something I need to add to my list
