Do you have a long haired rabbit? Otherwise you should not trim your rabbits fur. Even long haired rabbits should just be brushed or combed.

As for baths, you should not give rabbits baths at all.

is it ok for them to get wet? he enjoys water alot, likes to walk thrue it. How should i cleen his fur when he starts to get a little stinky? he is a short haired ( i would say anyways) miniture flop who is the sweetest shyest bunny in the world. he was abused in a pet store and i am still working with him to be comfertable with me.  i just want him to be a cleen happy bunny

If he’s stinky you can buy some ‘no bath shampoo’ for rabbits which is a scented coat conditioner/shampoo that you spray in and then rub off, it cleans the fur without having to put them through the trauma of a bath. You just towel them off after spraying and then brush them. Has a wonderful ‘clean baby’ scent. It’s for rabbits and found in petstores, and not expensive -I’d really recommend going that route.

I would *strongly* recommend not bathing in your situation for a couple of reasons. One, he was abused, so take time and win him over-bathing him would set you back in that. Two, even if he likes water, it’s not natural for them to be completely wet and it will upset him. Three, he hasn’t gotten into anything (that you’ve mentioned) so he really doesn’t need a bath. And four, once they get wet, they are wet for HOURS after, and get very cold. It’s hard to keep them warm after a bath, it’s winter, not a good idea.

Anyways Welcome here!! We’d love to see pictures of your bunny!!

How does the fur get stinky? Is he urinating on himself? If that’s the case then he might have a urinary tract infection.

I *think* he just means if/when? Maybe stinky from the petstore?

Rupert was actually very stinky and grimy when we got him home from the humane society (And had a huge pee matt) and he did need a bath…

for a shy bunny he has alot of persoality and fight in him and thats the real problem, i have a corner litter box for him in his cage that has a grate that sits abouve the litter wich is awsum! Keeps him from getting pee all over him and out of his poop and he is verry good about useing it! but when i come home from work and if i dont get him from his cage and take him for a walk he gets up set and will grabe ahold of his ltter box rip it off the cage and flip it over and throw the litter evrywhere. or in the moring if i dont feed him in what he thinks is an apropret time of i sleep in a little he will flip it over and wallow in his filth. and its ALWAYS after i have ben at work or in the moring so thairs poop and pee. he is a little deva is what he is! He will get pee alover himself and the only way i have found to deel with it is bathing him and useing a blowdryer to (wich he loves) to dry him off. he has me wiped! but he is still realy shy and wont hang be closer than a cupple feet from me!i have had him for 4 or 5 mounths now and i have ben giving him a bath at least twice a week in the kitchen sink wich he actualy likes becus he will sit over the drain so the water wont run out and when thairs an inch of water he starts thimping like crazy splashing all around than he will let it drain and do it agen. I just cant think of how to cleen him in a difrant way when he gets that dirty and i cant just let him be stinky!! he is a fluffy banana loving crazy deva! I wish i had a cam so i could take some pics of him he is a nutty guy

this is what he has for a litter box http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752717

You can try zip tying his litter box to the cage to keep him from dumping his box over.

He sounds like a fun little rascal!

Awww sounds like he has tons of personality. Very cool!

Can you try attaching his litterbox better so he can’t dump it out? Maybe use zip ties and then just trim them when you take the litter box out to clean and zip tie it back on again?

I bet he’d love to destroy a phone book or two as well!

If your bunny has short hair you should never trim its fur, some long haired breeds can be trimmed with caution, but a short hair should never need a trim.

Is your bunny spayed/neutered?  If not, that might help with some of the bunny attitude you are seeing.  Bunny hormones can turn them into little monsters!  There are many posts on here showing that while people dread the surgery day- they can’t wait to be have their bunny back on the road to settling down!  I went thru this myself with my first bunny Cotton, I dreaded gong thru a raging hormonal bunny again, so the second bunny I adopted was already spayed.

Could you describe or post a pic that is similar to the cage you have? The litter box looks like it has 2 “lip” clips that clip over the wire – is that right? Maybe if we know what the cage looks like we could help come up with a non-permanent way to secure the box. It seems such a shame that he has such great litter habits only to have a tantrum and get all dirty!! If you can prevent that happening, bathing will not be an issue.
As K&K said, maybe give him a phone book or something he can take his frustration out on………..Little Rascal!
