Hello everyone! My name is Mame, and I just registered here, although I’ve been a lurker for months. I’m new to bunny ownership – I have a handsome REW bunny, 2 years old, his name is Teddy but I think I might rename him
He’s eaten a lot of hay, but hasn’t pooped or peed yet…Is that alright? Buuuut anyhow…Hey guys! ![]()
Welcome to BB Fluffybunny! Well done for becoming an official member
I think Teddy is a rather cute name for a rabbit. What other names are you thinking about?
I gather you have literally only just got this bunny? As in hours ago? If he’s moving about and exploring I’m sure the poop will come! Especially if he’s chowing down on hay. If you’ve had him longer than a day and he hasn’t pooped or peed then you must get him to see a vet asap!
There is plenty of info under Bunny Info tab at top of page. And plenty of helpful people here too.
And yes…I only got him today, we brought him home around dinner hour today, now it’s really late at night. Anyway…I’m not sure about the name yet, I might rename him, I might not…He’s sooooo cute…![]()
Ok, that’s a relief. All they same, keep a close eye on the toilet habits. He may still be trying to settle. If you have already set up a litter box, put some hay in one end. Many like to munch and poop at same time. Ah – the joys! Not sure how much you’ve read up on rabbit health but the eating/pooping/peeing thing is vital. It is important the gastro intestinal tract does not get sluggish and stop moving. A rabbits health can quickly decline in this event. Make sure you line up a rabbit vet in your area.
Yes, I’ve read a lot on rabbit care…I’ve been into this (rabbits) since what…June? I think. Anyway, bringing him home was unexpected, my dad had the idea to go to PetSmart for no reason, just to see if they had rabbits, and we saw him up for adoption…You get the idea
But I’ll keep a close eye on him. I put hay in the litterbox, my parents said bad things about that because the stupid petstore adoption thingy we got says, “rabbits eat, sleep and use the bathroom in different places”
Did I mention he’s not fully litter trained? Fun ![]()
Ha ha, yes, lots of fun ahead! Sorry ^^ I should have written Welcome Marne! Although you’ll likely be referred to as Fluffy Bunny here. lol
Edit to add: Ha, my eyes! v v Thanks for the correction Mame.
And it’s Mame, with one M in the middle, not Marne with an R-N-E ^^
EDIT: Lol, it’s okay XD
Welcome and CONGRATs on adopting!! How exciting-and a surprise too! That’s great Teddy gets a second chance on life, and with someone who cared to do reading and find out what they were getting into first-That’s awesome!!
Sounds like he’s probably fine, I’m sure you’ll find some poops soon (Of course if none are there by tomorrow, you might want to take him in-though I’m sure if he’s eating, it’s going to come out soon!)
Litter training especially with a neutered bun isn’t too hard so don’t worry! We’ll help you through it! You should go take some pics of Teddy so we can all see him ![]()
welcome here! Teddy sounds like such a swell guy! i like the name Teddy, or you could do Ted, or even change it up and call him Theo… while still keeping the same basic name!
buna are a lot of fun, that’s great you’ve done your research and adopted a bun! if you have any pics you’d like to share, please do!
He made a BIG pile of poo in the litterbox last night and a few scattered in one other corner
Silly bunny…And I’ll try to get some pictures of him today or tomorrow…He’s a mediumish REW bunny, loves eating
He likes being pet too…I barely even know him, and he melts a tiny bit when I pet his head ![]()
Awwww how sweet!! That’s fantastic!
Welcome! I love REW’s. I have a REW lop named Bindi Loo. I think Teddy is a cute name for a bunny too.
Haaa – I remember the First day I had my buns at home – NO poop.
When I woke up the next morning – How did ALL OF THAT possibly come out of 2 tiny bunny’s!
“Melting” for head pets is a good sign!
Today he peed aaaalllll over one corner of the cage…O.o And made plenty more chocolate cereal…
But anyway…Thanks guys, I’ll try to get some pics tonight maybe, or tomorrow morning ![]()
Congrats on the new bunny. I recently adopted a new bunny and the previous owner had named her “Dora” which I did not like, so after a few days of thinking about it and getting to know her personality I renamed her “Penny”. I would assume that most rabbits that are looking for a home and have not been in a foster home for a while will not know their previous name anyway- how much could they really care about their bunny (talking to them, calling them by name, etc) if they ended up in a shelter or rescue (I am sure there are exceptions to this).
Of course I have had Cotton since she was 10 weeks old- and if she knows her name she has never given any indication of it!
She responds to treats, etc and she knows what “no” means, but she does not look at me when I call her name or even think about coming when I call her name. (No, she is not deaf just strong willed). She seems to sense when there is nothing in it for her, so does not even acknowledge my pathetic (in her opinion) attempts to get her attention.

Congrats on entering the world of bunny ‘ownership’ although if your a frequent lurker here you’ve probably already guessed the bunnies actually own us
We renamed our adopted bunny as soon as we got her, from Bluey (eew) to Layla so I don’t think Teddy will mind.
Welcome
Hope to see you and Teddy round a lot, can’t wait for pics.
I got the pictures! I’ll edit them in here in a minute
EDIT: 1st pic: Him in his cage in the “Bunny Room”, 2nd pic: Classic bunny ![]()

He’s lovely! Glad to hear he turned into a Pooper Trooper! ![]()
Hi! Welcome to Binkybunny!
I think a REW was a great choice for a first bunny, they are very mellow, very sweet, and in my experience, also very smart so I think he will get the hang of litter training very soon. It is so nice of you to have adopted him, REW’s have a very hard time getting adopted, which I think is said because they are such excellent house rabbits.
I think something that may help with the litter training would be to get him a bigger litterbox, I use those square kitty litterboxes that you can get at Target or Walmart for very cheap. On the corner one, it looks like he might not have enough room to stretch out his bum and lift his tail to pee, which might be why he peed in the cage instead of in the litterbox. Also, the bigger the litter box the higher the percentage that he will poop and pee in it!
What a beautiful bunny!
ditto on the bigger box. buns like to eat hay while they potty, so with a bigger box you can put hay on one end to help encourage thsoe good bunny box habits! he is gorgeous! i was not particularly fond of the REW before, but since joinging this site, the more i am seeing them, the more i am in love with them.
I’ve always loved the REWs…Anyway, I’ll try to convince my parents to get him a better litterbox…
I had a white (red eyed (albino)) rabbit a few years ago. (deceased). He was the best rabbit in the entire Universe.
Your bunny looks just like him. Try telling him he’s the best rabbit in the entire Universe and see how he responds.
Rabbits usually like compliments. Seriously. the tone of voice, etc.
WELCOME and I am so happy to see a REW! ![]()
Welcome! Glad you two are settling in together!
